Rose Young is the author of the newly released "Roses, Wine & Murder: In the City of Steeples" which is claimed to be "a thrilling mystery among the vineyards and garden of Long Island Sound." Available on Amazon, Ebook as well as in print.

Rose has lived in Connecticut for 17 years and enjoys exploring the locations of her story and weaving facts from history, horticulture and wine into her mystery novel. The MOMS Club of New London and UConn K.I.D.S presents Dr. Beth Russell from the University of Connecticut's Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Dr. Beth Russel will give a presentation that will center on executive function and self-regulation in children. This 30 minute presentation will present information about how children develop self-control. One of the most interesting areas of study is the role parents play in fostering their children's skills. These early experiences shape behavior across childhood and into early adulthood and are helpful in facing everyday challenges and any unexpected more stressful events. Parents who have children birth to five years old are invited to this free presentation.

The Family Life of Pileated Woodpeckers
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Spy on a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers for six weeks during the breeding season—and fall in love at first flight! Using a videocam aimed at the nest hole on a daily basis for six weeks, Carrie Crompton created a 45-minute video. See how the male and female divvy up the labor of incubating, hatching/brooding, and feeding their young. It’s a surprisingly suspenseful story.

Carrie Crompton is an apprentice in the Master Naturalist program at Goodwin Conservation Center. She discovered a pair of pileated woodpeckers nesting near her home in Andover, CT and filmed their activities until the young fledged. These birds are becoming more abundant in the New England woods. Once you’ve seen this program, you will very likely be seeing and hearing more Pileated woodpeckers yourself!

Supper Book Club:
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

The Supper Book Club meets monthly, usually the second Monday of the month.

Book: TBD

Restaurant: TBD

Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting date and are due back the evening of the book discussion.  Food is ordered from a local restaurant, often reflecting a theme in the book, and is delivered to the library. The menu is available at the Circulation Desk and is emailed to all club members. Selections from the menu should be made by 12:00 PM the day of the meeting and phoned or emailed to the library. Club members pay for their meal at the book club. Participants may also bring their own supper or snack. Water, coffee and tea are provided by the library. The facilitator for the evening provides dessert.
