Author Talk with Dirk Langefeld: The Artful Dodger
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Shortly after Grover Cleveland Bergdoll was convicted of dodging the World War I draft, he convinced his captors to release him. He'd buried a valuable cache of gold, he claimed, and wanted to find it before someone else did. His subsequent escape would mark the start of a standoff with the U.S. government that lasted nearly two decades.  A former race car driver and pilot who trained with the Wright Brothers, Bergdoll was best known as "Draft Dodger No. 1."

The Artful Dodger by Dirk Langeveld tells the remarkable story of a case that is little remembered today, but captivated the world in the early 20th century.  Dirk will be at the library on October 17th to talk about the unbelieveable true story that his book focuses on.
