The beginning workshop will cover pedigree charts, family groups, census records, and organizational techniques. This workshop will be led by Joan Ball, President of the Marquette County Genealogical Society. Those with an interest in researching their family history are welcome to attend. OBOC event: WWII Camps Panel Discussion

One Book One Community invites the public to a panel on POW camps in the UP in conjunction with John Smolen’s novel Wolf’s Mouth.  Panlists are John Pepin, Larry Chabot, and Gary Asano.

John Pepin worked at the Mining Journal for 21 years where in January 2000, he published a series of five articles he wrote entitled “POW Camps in the UP,” which were expanded into the 2004 documentary film Enemy in our Midst, co-produced with Jackie Chandonnet.  During his portion of the panel event, John will focus on UP POW camps, showing clips from this documentary.

Historian and author, Larry Chabot has written two UP history books:  The UP Goes to War:  Upper Michigan and Its Heroes in World War II (2006) and Saving Our Sons:  How the Civilian Conservation Corps Rescued a Generation of Upper Michigan Men (2009.)  Larry will present on the Civilian Conservation Corps Camps.

The speakers will be available for a question & answer session after their presentation.
