Author Talk: Death of an Altar Boy Book, by E.J. Fleming
6:15 PM - 8:00 PM

E. J. Fleming reviews his explosive new book "Death of an Altar Boy: The Unsolved Murder of Danny Croteau and the Culture of Abuse in the Catholic Church" in this engaging presentation.  According to the publisher "The tragic death of 13-year-old Danny Croteau in 1972 faded from headlines and memories for 20 years until the Boston abuse scandal—a string of assaults within the Catholic Church—exploded in the early 2000's. Despite numerous indications, including 40 claims of sexual misconduct with minors, pointing to him as Croteau’s killer, the Reverend Richard R. Lavigne remains “innocent.” A question and answer period will follow the talk. 18+

Copies of this and other griping books by Mr. Fleming, such as "Tread Softly: Bullying and the Death of Phoebe Prince" will be available for sale and signing. Refreshments compliments of the Friends of the Library.

Springfield Mayor's Office of Consumer Information - Workshops - Identity Theft
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

The Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information (MOCI) is a Local Consumer Program funded by and working in cooperation with the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General  to help consumers resolve complaints who otherwise have to seek legal recourse through the court system. It serves residents of the City of Springfield and its surrounding cities and towns throughout Hampden County, and parts of Worcester County.

The goal of the MOCI is to empower consumers with knowledge of their rights and to educate them on ways to protect themselves from becoming a victim of a scam, fraud or identity theft. MOCI firmly believes in its motto, "Education is the Best Prevention."

It provides education, referral and consumer advocacy services at no cost to consumers. By advocating for consumers it allows consumers and businesses the opportunity to address and resolve disputes, although no legal advice or services are provided. The consumer specialists are trained and also have many years of experience and knowledge on consumer protection rights.

MOCI will be discussing Identity Theft -  Identity Theft does not discriminate against anyone, making us all vulnerable to the epidemic. Learn how to protect your personal information and what action to take if you become a victim.

Springfield Mayor's Office of Consumer Information - Workshops - Credit

MOCI will be discussing Credit. Credit is given where credit is due. It’s a simple but accurate statement. Learn how to build and maintain a good credit standing, and reach a higher credit score.

Springfield Mayor's Office of Consumer Information - Workshops - Home Improvement

MOCI will be discussing Home Improvement. Home Improvement can be costly, but even costlier if you don’t do your homework before hiring the right contractor. Learn what action to take before you sign on a dotted line or hand over any money.
