The Community Voting Project
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

This is not a library-sponsored event.

WHAT: Why Voting Matters

WHO: People who haven’t voted ever or in the last 4 years

We are the Community Voting Project and are providing a 1.5 hour free workshop to educate US citizenswho have never voted before or whom haven’t voted in the last 4 years on their voting rights, the voting process and basic information about all the candidates.

The Community Voting Project does not endorse any political candidates; we focus on educating people about their voting rights and helping them become active members of the democratic process.

All US citizens have the right to participate in the voting process and we aim to make this simple by removing educational and logistical barriers which sometimes affect people’s ability to vote.

This project is sponsored by the Sojourner Truth School, which promotes civic engagement.

In this presentation we will provide the following:

  1. A hot nutritious meal prior to the presentation starting.
  2. Child Care for participants who have small children.
  3. Information sheets on who and what’s on the ballot
  4. Transportation to the voting polls on November 6th 2018 (election day)
  5. A $50 stipend for each person who voted (this will be verified)
  • People must register for this workshop by calling 413-225-1210 or by sending an email to: TheCommunityVotingProject@gmail.com
  • Please include your name and your phone number in the voicemail or email.

We look forward to helping you vote.

Series of three Saturdays, November 3, 10, 17

Parenting can come with a lot of challenges!

What are your needs? What your child’s needs? What do you think and feel about your experience?
This program is an opportunity for you to take a step back and process these thoughts and feelings through art. This is an opportunity for self-care. This is an opportunity to represent yourself (i.e. as a new parent) in the community.

The program will begin with a vendor fair, featuring community organizations that help new parents. After that, participants will have the opportunity to use a variety of materials to create art with.

Attend one or all three Saturdays. Childcare provided. Pizza provided! Registration is greatly appreciated but not required.

Afterthoughts Book Discussion Group
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Meets the second Thursday of every month | Adults

We select a new book to discuss every month. Library copies of the book will be available at the branch. This month we will be reading In The Days Of Rain: a Daughter, a Father, a Cult, by Rebecca Stott.

In the Days of Rain is Rebecca Stott’s attempt to make sense of her childhood in the Exclusive Brethren, to understand her father’s role in the cult and in the breaking apart of her family, and to come to be at peace with her relationship with a larger-than-life figure whose faults were matched by a passion for life, a thirst for knowledge, and a love of literature and beauty. A father-daughter story as well as a memoir of growing up in a closed-off community and then finding a way out of it, this is an inspiring and beautiful account of the bonds of family and the power of self-invention.

Come join us for a lively discussion and meet others who also enjoy reading. New members are always welcome.
