Towel Day Towel Drive

May 25th is known as Towel Day in recognition of Douglas Adam's world-famous book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As all good intergalactic hitchhikers know, towels are necessary for successful star traveling, but local animal shelters need them too! Bring in your clean but reusable old towels between Monday May 22 and Saturday May 27th, and staff will have them delivered to the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Adoption Center for use as animal bedding. Each accepted towel will earn you a raffle ticket to win a $25 gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. See your librarian for details. Stop by during all open hours at all library locations. MassHealth is hosting a public listening session to discuss upcoming changes to the PCA Program. Beginning in 2018, MassHealth will start requiring consumers and PCAs to use an electronic visit verification (EVV) system instead of paper timesheets to record services and receive payment for those services. During this listening session, MassHealth will provide information about EVV, as well as listen to questions and concerns from community members. MassHealth looks forward to meeting with PCA consumers and PCAs.

Movies at Mason Square: Fences

Join us in the Mason Square Branch Community Room for a screening of Fences.

Denzel Washington directed and stars in this adaptation of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which centers on a black garbage collector named Troy Maxson in 1950s Pittsburgh. Bitter that baseball's color barrier was only broken after his own heyday in the Negro Leagues, Maxson is prone to taking out his frustrations on his loved ones. Both Washington and co-star Viola Davis won Tonys for their performances in the 2010 revival of the play. Davis also won an Oscar for the screen adaption. Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo, Russell Hornsby, and Mykelti Williamson round out the supporting cast. Rated PG-13.

Special Education Surrogate Parent Orientation
11:00 AM - 2:30 PM

This is not a library-sponsored event.

Volunteer to Become a Special Education Surrogate Parent

Are you interested in supporting students in your community?

You can help by volunteering to become a Special Education Surrogate Parent (SESP) for a student in state care that requires special education supports and whose parents are unknown or unavailable. These children depend on SESPs to protect their legal right to a free and appropriate education.

SESPs serve as appointed decision makers that have the legal authority of a parent or legal guardian to attend and participate in special education team meetings, approve or reject Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and if necessary, file complains or appeals. On average, the time commitment is only 30-40 hours a year.

RTSC hosts FREE Orientation Trainings throughout the state where you will learn about the role of an SESP, how traumatic experiences can impact learning and how to incorporate the appropriate supports into the IEP. Register to attend this training or visit our website at www.fcsn.org/rtsc/ to view our current training schedule for other opportunities.

Registration is required.

You can register online at http://fcsn.org/rtsc/orientations/ or contact Danielle Hardin at dhardin@fcsn.org or 617-399-8342. (PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT PHONE NUMBER.)
