Learn the basics of hand sewing and design!  In the first class, you will make a felt bookmark.  Register for upcoming classes and learn to make your own drawstring bag or lavender eye pillow.  Other classes will be offered on  February 11, 2020 and March 17,  2020.  All classes will be held from 4-6.   Please note that  registration is required for each classs and can be done online or by calling 413-263-6858.

Read to Cadence the Dog

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.

A United States history discussion group that focuses on American history books and documentaries meets monthly at the Sixteen Acres Branch Library. Members will be encouraged to share with the group any conversation-provoking history book that they are reading. We will also view critically acclaimed documentaries on a number of history topics. Learn Origami with Valley Folds

Explore the ancient Japanese art of origami with an experienced teacher.  We typically teach beginner through intermediate although all levels of experience are welcome.  Origami paper is provided.   Come fold paper with us!  This workshop is intended for ages 8- adults.  Younger children may participate assisted by a parent.  Origami usually meets the third Saturday of the month from noon to 2 p.m. Occasionally Saturdays may differ, so please call 413-263-6858 to confirm dates.

Author Talk: Out on a Limb, by Robert Loesch

Hear Springfield author Robert Loesch talk about his new book Out on a Limb.  Mr. Loesch, a  United Church of Christ minister, has lived in Springfield for over a quarter century, and has penned four books to date. Out on a Limb features nine short stories set in Springfield and surrounding towns between 2010-19.  The author writes that "the fictional adult characters, representing several diverse ethnic, religious and racial identities, engage in a variety of important situations and problems in positive ways."  Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing, and refreshments come with compliments from the Friends of the Library.

Read to Cadence the Dog

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.

Read to Cadence the Dog

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.

U.S. History And Media Discussion Group

If you love discussing important issues concerning American history, we have good news for you. A United States history discussion group that focuses on American history books and documentaries meets monthly at the Sixteen Acres Branch Library. Members will be encouraged to share with the group any conversation-provoking history book that they are reading. We will also view critically acclaimed documentaries on a number of history topics. The books and documentaries are guaranteed to spark lively discussions. We will also have guest speakers at some meetings. Refreshments available compliments of the Friends of the Library. Meets on the first Tuesday of every month - Ages 18+.

Hungry for Books: Early Literacy Workshops for Caregivers

Do you have a toddler or preschooler? Then you may be interested in this program!

It's never too early to start reading with your child and preparing them to succeed in school. Connect with fellow caregivers and educators by attending three FREE, fun, and interactive workships throughout the year. In addition to hands-on training, participants will receive free picture books and art materials that encourage talking, playing, and building early literacy skills at home!

A United States history discussion group that focuses on American history books and documentaries meets monthly at the Sixteen Acres Branch Library. Read to Cadence the Dog

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.

A United States history discussion group that focuses on American history books and documentaries meets monthly at the Sixteen Acres Branch Library. Members will be encouraged to share with the group any conversation-provoking history book that they are reading. We will also view critically acclaimed documentaries on a number of history topics. The books and documentaries are guaranteed to spark lively discussions. We will also have guest speakers at some meetings. Refreshments available compliments of the Friends of the Library. Meets on the first Tuesday of every month - Ages 18+.

Read to Cadence the Dog
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Read to Cadence - Megan Marshall, a volunteer from Bright Spot Reading Buddies, will bring her dog Cadence to the library to have children read to her. She will be at the library the first Saturday of each month from 11:30am-12:20pm. Kids ages 4-10 must sign up for a 10 minute slot to read to her friendly, furry companion. Bring a favorite picture book or a chapter book to read to Cadence. This program is designed to help kids gain confidence and reduce anxiety about reading.
