Graphic Novel Book Club: American Born Chinese
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This month, read and discuss AMERICAN BORN CHINESE by Gene Luen Yang, a graphic memoir that weaves Eastern mythology with a young boy’s struggles to fit in with American society.  Written for a young adult audience, this award-winning book appeals to all ages with its charming wit, expressive art, and universal coming-of-age themes.  Closely related to comic books, graphic novels are a uniquely American mode of storytelling known for an incredible range of expression thanks to their union of words and pictures.  This group is intended for adults aged 18 or older.  No need to be a comic fan—give this unique medium a try!  Please call (315) 536-6114 or visit our events calendar at www.pypl.org to register for this free event.

Her expertise is in working with association libraries to understand which laws apply to them, and how to get to best practices while also being practical. After breakfast concludes, you'll have a workshop session with Kathy with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and understand your library's finances and controls even better.

Trustees, you'll be joined at breakfast by Carrie Pollak. Carrie is a lawyer specializing in non-profits. She will help contextualize our library practices within the latest state and federal laws that apply to our organizations as non-profits and as libraries in a workshop after breakfast.

Opioid Education and Naloxone Informational Session for Library Staff
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

As we are all aware, the severity of opioid-related overdoses is quickly on the rise across our nation and especially in NY State. One of the key methods of fighting this opioid epidemic is providing education and information about opioids and overdoses. Please join us as Mr. Michael Pirozzolo, Executive Director, and his staff from Southern Tier Regional Emergency Medical Services, Inc. provide an Opioid and Naloxone Education Workshop.

Public overdoses are occurring in many spaces and some libraries are choosing to educate their staff about overdoses and Naloxone (Narcan) in preparation for such events. This workshop will provide an education about the dangers of opioids, the signs of overdoses, and how to administer Naloxone. Libraries will then be able to later make educated decisions on whether they wish to have the overdose antidote Naxolone on hand in their libraries. Attending this workshop is for educational purposes only and will not require you and your library to have the antidote. We want to provide an informational session to help in the organization of assistance of those in our communities who need it.
