Graphic Novel Book Club: ALIAS
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This month, join us for a look at the point where crime noir and superheroes meet: Marvel’s Alias, volumes 1 and 2, starring the popular Jessica Jones.  Before her hit Netflix show returns in March, catch up with the groundbreaking graphic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos.  “Once upon a time, she was a costumed super hero — but not a very good one.  In a city of Marvels, she never found her niche. The self-destructive would-be Avenger is now the owner and sole employee of Alias Investigations — a small, private-investigative firm specializing in superhuman cases. When she uncovers the potentially explosive secret of one hero’s true identity, Jessica’s life immediately becomes expendable. But her wit, charm and intelligence just may help her survive another day.”  Explicit, funny, and unrelenting, Alias is a modern classic.  Closely related to comic books, graphic novels are a uniquely American mode of storytelling known for an incredible range of expression thanks to their union of words and pictures.  This group is intended for adults aged 18 or older.  No need to be a comic fan—give this unique medium a try!  Please call (315) 536-6114 or click below to register for this free event. (Be sure to talk to Alex at the library about reserving a copy of the book.)

Trustee Book Club - Sustainable Thinking
4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Sustainable Thinking! Trustee Book Club

book cover for Sustainable Thinking: Ensuring Your Library’s Future in an Uncertain World

Join us for the next Trustee Book Club to discuss Sustainable Thinking: Ensuring Your Library's Future in an Uncertain World by Rebekkah Smith Aldrch.

From the publisher: How we talk about what we do is just as important as what we do, and in communicating the value of libraries to our society what our profession needs is confidence, determination, and the will to succeed. In this inspiring and pragmatic new book, Aldrich shows that the first step towards a sustainable library is sustainable thinking: a determined yet realistic attitude that will help your library spot opportunities for institutional advancement, advocate for and safeguard operating funds, and generate intense loyalty from the communities you serve.

How Trustee Book Club works:

  1. Register for Book Club below
  2. Choose how you'd like to participate: read and discuss in person at Book Club OR read and discuss at your library's board meeting
  3. Either choice, STLS purchases the book and sends it in the delivery to the library for which you are a trustee
  4. After you've read and discussed the book, please add it to your library's collection or send it into STLS for inclusion in our consultants collection
