Please join us Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart--he breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she crumbling from loneliness and despair. In a moment of levity during the season's first snowfall, they build a child out of snow. The next morning the snow child is gone--but they glimpse a young, blonde-haired girl running through the trees. This little girl, who calls herself Faina, seems to be a child of the woods. She hunts with a red fox at her side, skims lightly across the snow, and somehow survives alone in the Alaskan wilderness. As Jack and Mabel struggle to understand this child who could have stepped from the pages of a fairy tale, they come to love her as their own daughter. But in this beautiful, violent place things are rarely as they appear, and what they eventually learn about Faina will transform all of them.

Please join us Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Contemporary Book Group
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Please join us Wednesday, January 9, 2097 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Yeongdo, Korea 1911. In a small fishing village on the banks of the East Sea, a club-footed, cleft-lipped man marries a fifteen-year-old girl. The couple have one child, their beloved daughter Sunja. When Sunja falls pregnant by a married yakuza, the family face ruin. But then Isak, a Christian minister, offers her a chance of salvation: a new life in Japan as his wife.

Following a man she barely knows to a hostile country in which she has no friends, no home, and whose language she cannot speak, Sunja’s salvation is just the beginning of her story.

Through eight decades and four generations, Pachinko is an epic tale of family, identity, love, death and survival.

Myths of Language Development: A Talk With Suzanne Ducharme
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Do you ever wonder if boys really do talk later than girls? Or if it’s confusing to speak two languages to a child? Are you unsure what to expect from your child's early language development? Suzanne Ducharme will be here to explain and debunk common myths about language development and acquisition,
and to answer your questions in this talk geared to parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals.

Pre-registration encouraged but walk-ins welcome---doors will open for this free program at 10:45 am. Crafts and puzzles will be available for children accompanying their parents in the room next door to the presentation. This program has a snow date of Saturday, January 26th at 11 am.

There will be the chance to ask questions (and to buy Suzanne's book, if interested) after the talk.

About the Presenter:
Suzanne’s passion-- her Life Work, is to help children with special needs and their families. Suzanne’s primary training is as a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist. Nearly 25 years of experience in a variety of settings has given Suzanne the opportunity to develop and refine advanced clinical skills in treating children with a range of complex medical and developmental challenges. In 2001, Suzanne opened her private practice, which is now located in Norwell, MA. Since 2007, Suzanne has been offering traditional speech pathology services combined with Craniosacral Therapy and Reiki, which has led to the development of an approach called holistic speech pathology. This innovative approach looks at the whole child, and considers their communication or feeding issues through the lens of their family, and their journey to reach their highest potential. You can find out more info about Suzanne and her work at at www.Suzanne-Ducharme.com.
