Recipes from My Home Kitchen

Recipes from My Home Kitchen by Christine Ha In her kitchen, Christine Ha possesses a rare ingredient that most professionally-trained chefs never learn to use: the ability to cook by sense. After tragically losing her sight in her twenties, this remarkable home cook, who specializes in the mouthwatering, wildly popular Vietnamese comfort foods of her childhood, as well as beloved American standards that she came to love growing up in Texas, re-learned how to cook. Using her heightened senses, she turns out dishes that are remarkably delicious, accessible, luscious, and crave-worthy. This program is subsidized by the Friends of the Library. A limited number of copies will be available in print for $5.00. There will also be library copies and digital formats available. Please Register for the GoToMeeting link.

Infinite Country by Patricia Engel

How this family came to occupy two different countries, comes into focus like twists of a kaleidoscope. Talia’s parents, Mauro and Elena, fall in love as teenagers against a backdrop of civil war and social unrest. They leave Bogotá with their firstborn, in pursuit of safety and opportunity in the United States on a temporary visa, and we see the births of two more children, on American soil. We witness the decisions and indecisions that lead to Mauro’s deportation and the family’s splintering.
