Veera Hiranandani will join us via Zoom for a thought-provoking writing exercise sure to get those creative juices flowing! The Library will be partnering with the Cole Summer Writer’s Institute for this author-led portion of the week-long workshop. Copies of Hiranandani's books will be provided to all registrants thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, and the author's presentation is funded by a Voorheesville Community and School Foundation mini grant. SAVE THE DATES: July 21st, 22nd and 23rd , 2022 - the 78th Annual Punkintown Fair, sponsored by the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, Ballston Spa National Bank, Rentals to Go, Family Danz Heating & Cooling and Martin, Hardy & Mazzotti is back!
The Punkintown Fair is a family-oriented event that has been run by the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department, 694 New Salem Road in Voorheesville, NY, since 1942. Parking and admission is free. The Fair will start at 6:00pm each night featuring a variety of rides, delicious food and games for all ages. Fifty (50) bike helmets in various sizes are being donated by Martin, Hardy & Mazzotti on Saturday, July 23rd only – first come first served.
There will be cash raffle prizes of $2,000 for 1st prize, $1,000 for 2nd prize and $500 for the 3rd prize. Winner will be drawn closer to the close of the Fair on Saturday night (no need to be present to win). There will also be additional prizes added to the drawing this year.
All proceeds from the Fair and Raffle will be used to update Fire and Rescue equipment to provide services to the residents of the district.

The ocean holds many mysteries. Children will learn about the ocean's diverse life - from plankton to whales - from the educators at Mad Science of the Capital District. Participants will discover underwater habitats, learn how humans can help protect ocean life, and explore the Anaglyph Sea Puzzle, which lets children dive in and take the ocean home! For grades K-5. In this Mad Science workshop students will explore environmental issues relating to our water system. Observe and measure some of the effects of pollution on the living and non-living aspects of an ecosystem. Explore the effects of oil spills, and the difficulties in cleaning up these spills through a hands-on science activity. Grades 6-9; please register.

Join us for a fun and interactive music class designed especially for little ones and their caregivers. Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for ages 0-4 and the adults who love them. A normal everyday puddle may not seem very special, but for a mother turtle it might be the perfect place to lay her eggs, and for a squirrel, it might be the only spot to cool off and get a drink. For any child, a puddle can be a window into the amazing natural world. Children in grades K-3 with caregivers are invited to join the discussion as we read Hello, Puddle! by local author and science educator, Anita Sanchez. Ms. Sanchez will join us to share her vast knowledge of science and the enviornment as participants engage in hands-on exploration highlighting some of the creatures mentioned in the book like snails and water bugs. Join local artist, Megan Viscio as we learn how to make clay molds and plaster castings of your baby’s hands and feet. Participants will use materials such as clay or play dough, plaster and wood to mount your final piece. Megan created this project when her children were babies and enjoys looking back on them with a smile.
