Sculptris Basics

Learn the basics of 3D modelling software. This workshop covers the basic functions of Sculptris, a free 3D modelling software which can be used to digitally design and sculpt your own custom organic objects, printable on the library's MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer.
 

This is a fast-paced workshop. To get the most out of this workshop, participants should have very strong basic computer skills.

Durham Infant Hearing Screening Clinic

The Durham Infant Hearing Screening Clinic is hosted by the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program in partnership with the Whitby Public Library.  Babies up to four months of age are eligible for a free hearing screening if they did not receive one at birth in the hospital.

3D Printer Orientation

Learn the basics of 3d printing, including how to prepare a 3D design file for printing, as well as how to properly and safely use the 3D printer to print your own 3D object. Patrons must attend an orientation workshop before using the 3D printer.
 
To get the most out of this workshop, registrants should already be comfortable with basic computer functions, like browsing the internet, and downloading files. 

Participants must be in grade 7 or older and have a Whitby Public Library card in good standing to attend this workshop and use the 3D printer.

Sensory Friendly Hour at Rossland Branch

Teen Summer Challenge

Help prevent Summer boredom by joining the brand new Teen Summer Challenge. Have fun, get to know your library, and earn an invitation to the exclusive After Hours Wrap-Up Party on August 18th. Registration opens July 3rd. Register online using the link below, or in person at any Whitby Library location.

How It Works:

  • Receive a free book when you register. Those who register online can arrange to pick up their book at the location of their choice.
  • You will receive a list of challenges when you register. If you register online, the list will be emailed to you within 72 hours.
  • When you complete a challenge, email a picture or a description of what you did to teenservices@whitbylibrary.ca. Please include the number of the challenge(s) in the subject line. You may include up to three challenges per email.
  • Complete 25 challenges and receive an email invitation to our After Hours Wrap-Up Party, which will take place at the Central Library on August 18th from 4-7 p.m.*
  • Complete all 50 challenges and you’ll also receive a Summer prize pack! Challenges must be submitted by Wednesday, August 16th at 5 p.m. Late challenges will not be accepted.

All content submitted to the Teen Summer Challenge must be original, and must be your own work. By submitting your work to the Teen Summer Challenge, you are giving the Whitby Public Library the right to publish your submission via the library’s website and social media accounts, and/or use it for marketing purposes.

*Teens who receive an invitation to the after hours party but are unable to attend will receive an additional free book, which must be picked up by August 31st. Please contact teenservices@whitbylibrary.ca by August 17th to arrange this alternative prize.

Registration will begin on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 9:00 AM

The Zentangle method increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction, and instills a sense of personal wellbeing. This is a fun and relaxing art form for all abilities. We will be designing in black and white, on a 6”x 6” square tile, where you will create beautiful images using structured tangles that are specific designs.

The images will be small, "fine work"; remember your reading glasses if you need them!

This program is intended for adults, 18+ and registration is required.

Welcome the Science Ninjas with Science Everywhere! This is a hands-on workshop with science sprinkled throughout. We’ll be screenprinting our own phosphorescent tees. There will also be various light/optics based interactive things to experiment with, including a massive phosphorescent canvas. The science of phosphorescence and other types of luminescence will be explained throughout the session.
