An Evening with Ted Barris at Central
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Image of Dam Busters Cover.

It was a night that changed the Second World War. The secret raid against the hydro-electric dams of Germany’s Ruhr River took years to plan, involved an untried bomb, and included the best aircrews Allied Bomber Command could muster – many of them Canadian. The raid marked the first time the Allies tactically took the war inside Nazi Germany. It was a mission that became legendary.

Find out more about that night and that mission as Ted Barris shares stories from his latest novel, Dam Busters: Canadian Airmen and the Secret Raid against Nazi Germany.

Award-winning journalist, author, and broadcaster, Barris regularly writes in the national media (National Post, Air Force magazine, Zoomer among many), and has hosted many CBC Radio network programs and shows on TV Ontario. Among his eighteen previous bestselling non-fiction books: Juno, Behind the Glory, Deadlock in Korea, Victory at Vimy, and Breaking the Silence. In June 2014, his book The Great Escape: A Canadian Story won the Libris Non-Fiction Book Award of the Year.

Books will be available for purchase through Blue Heron Books.

Registration is required. Register online or by calling any branch.

Free Film Night: Lost in Paris at Central
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Image of Lost in Paris film cover.

Hidden gem/Comedy. Filmed in Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon's signature whimsical style, and stars the filmmakers as a small-town Canadian librarian and a strangely seductive, oddly egotistical French vagabond.

When Fiona's orderly life is disrupted by a letter of distress from her elderly Aunt Martha who is living in Paris, Fiona hops on the first plane she can and arrives only to discover that Martha has disappeared.

In an avalanche of spectacular disasters, she encounters Dom, the affable, but annoying tramp won't leave her alone. Watch the trailer now.
