Dr. David Silverman - When things fall apart

Samuel Treat Day
Pastor to Eastham and the Nauset Praying Indians

Zoom Lecture: Dr. David Silverman - When Things Fall Apart: Samuel Treat, the Wampanoags, and the Place of Christian Indians in Colonial New England.

Samuel Treat's missionary work among the Wampanoags of the outer Cape took place during a dramatic transition of Indigenous life, following King Philip's War of 1675-76.  This talk will explore the effort of "praying Indians" and  missionaries like Rev. Treat to pursue their respective goals amid a colonial society hostile to the visions of both.
