Dance instructors Eileen Herman-Haase and Raul Nieves of Dance Caliente will demonstrate and teach the Salsa dance style via Zoom this evening. This July program is part one of a 3-part series of dance presentations planned by the MPL, with the second class in September (West Coast Swing) and the third class in November (Tango). You can sign up for one class or do all three! No prior experience is required and if the class is via Zoom, no partner is needed either.
Salsa is an energetic dance with lots of freedom in the hips and ribs, adding a playful sensuality to each move. This virtual class will give you a taste of two common and exciting styles of salsa dance found in every dance club around the world. The 'country' dance style (Cumbia/Salsa dance style) moves from side to side, rotates in a curve and leads to interesting pivot turns, cuddles, wrap arounds and more. The 'big city' dance style (Puerto Rican-Cuban/Salsa dance style) moves in a slot, makes use of the crossbody lead, has many turns, and a long list of impressive moves.
When taught remotely, the focus is on the steps, rhythms and embellishments of the moves. Regardless of where their lessons take place, the instructors feel mixing laughter with a little sweat are essential components of a great learning experience!
Advance registration is required and once signed-up, a Zoom connection link will be Emailed to you on the day of the program. Please join us!
