After having his doctoral thesis on computer simulation theory rejected by the school board, Charles Stirling burns bridges with his college. Left penniless and without further prospects, he returns to his home town with a friend to make sense of the horrible situation. However, a massive sinkhole has formed in the town, bringing into question the nature of reality itself.
