Food for Thought: A Culinary Book Discussion Group
Monday September 24, 2018

What She Ate: Six Remarkable Women and the Food That Tells Their Stories by Laura Shapiro (2017, 320 pages) Everyone eats, and food touches on every aspect of our lives—social and cultural, personal and political. Yet most biographers pay little attention to people’s attitudes toward food. Once we ask how somebody relates to food, we find a world of different and provocative ways to understand her. The six women discussed are Dorothy Wordsworth, Rosa Lewis, Eleanor Roosevelt, Eva Braun, Barbara Pym, and Helen Gurley Brown.
Food for Thought: A Culinary Book Discussion Group reads books that explore the many ways that food expresses, affects, and enriches our lives. Discussions are held on the fourth Monday of every month, excluding December.
New readers always welcome! No registration required. Books are available at the Circulation Desk.
