*Why They Sang The Blues - Civil Rights in the Mississippi Delta / A Long Island Reads Affiliated Event

Both Blues and Jazz music played an important role in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.  Civil Rights Historian and former Motown executive Leon Burnette will present a multimedia lecture which discusses how the influence of African American spirituals, gospel, folk music and the blues inspired and shaped the movement.
