.Tales have often been told of the early centuries of life in what is now Wayland, and of the town church and its ministers before disestablishment (1833). Ken Sawyer, 29th minister of the church, now retired, will recall them again, more briefly, and then move on to the life of the town and of First Parish in the years since, featuring tales of the clergy, while they were in Wayland, before, and after.

In 1974, Ken Sawyer and his family moved to Wayland from northern Maine, where Ken began his Unitarian Universalist ministry. He served the First Parish in Wayland for the next 38 years, and is now minister emeritus. He graduated from Amherst College and Harvard Divinity School, with a special interest in Massachusetts congregational history and in the ministry. He served on several national UU committees and for 12 years taught preaching at Harvard.
