Curatorial Statement:

The environmental crisis is multifactorial: consumerism, pollution, extreme weather, loss of biodiversity, and other catastrophes - too complex, too intertwined, but above all, too urgent. A collective problem that requires collective solutions. As individuals, we wonder, “How can I contribute to the solution?”

The featured eco-minded artists, members of i3C (inspiring Change for the Climate Crisis) Artists Group and Guests, respond by working with rejected materials, such as beach debris, plastic waste, or repurposed textiles. They dare to reinvent the life of waste, transforming these society rejections into reminders of what we need to save.

Join our conversation: change is not only possible but also a necessary and powerful element for critical environmental transformation.

Art AT 2300 Gallery opens Spring 2024 in Lexington as a pop-up gallery with multi-tiered events. The three founders are Karen Berman-Mulligan, acrylic painter, Jean Hart, watercolorist, and Angelique Zandhuis Swingle, gemstone jeweler.

We will hold events on weekends once a month from Spring to Fall. Guest artists including Painters, Metalsmiths, Woodworkers, Ceramicists, Glass artists, and more, will be invited to show and discuss their creations.  Work will be available for purchase.

Additionally, we welcome local children to explore the arts, draw and create, and hang their art. One table and tent will be provided for the visitors’ children who come along with their parents to make art.

In addition, we will invite other art forms such as yoga instructors, singers, and musicians to perform.

We are excited to invite these guest artists to participate in our events and share their talent. Our guest artists will display on our expansive front lawn on a wide, visible section at 2300 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington, up the hill from Hastings Park and town center.

Last Fall we held the event and it was so successful visitors requested that we continue such events.  Visitors enjoyed speaking with the artists and especially showing their children the various art mediums and having children talk about their own art.

Event dates will be listed in a pre-event newsletter, social media and on our website at: www.artat2300.com  Our first event will be the weekend of April 20 (11am-6pm), and April 21 (11am-5pm).

Our goal is to promote artists and enrich the lives of all in our community.

Can something be wry, aching, hysterical, evocative, provocative, fun, beautifully sung, and consummately played all at once? That would be Vance Gilbert.

An integral part of the national folk scene, Gilbert’s approach to the acoustic singer-songwriter idiom is significant. Gilbert’s compositions, while frequently employing sophisticated melodies and harmonies that attest to his jazz roots, remain sublime attestations to the storyteller’s craft. Many know Vance’s signature song, “Unfamiliar Moon,” which landed him in the second round of auditions of TV’s America’s Got Talent. Like all great artists, Vance truly happens live. In fact he developed his reputation with his jaw-dropping, diverse, funny, devastating, and gorgeous live performances.

Vance exploded onto the scene in the early ’90s, with buzz spreading quickly. Who was this multicultural arts teacher knocking them dead at open mics? After opening Shawn Colvin’s 1992 Fat City tour, he took much of America by storm. “The voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god,” wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Vance has released 16 albums, including Somerville (Live), and Side of the Road with Ellis Paul. His latest album, The Mother of Trouble, was released in May.

(Please note, our ticketing system only allows us to sell tickets one show at a time. Tickets for our Vance Gilbert show will go on sale after our March show!)

Humans have been responsible for degradation of our environment and destruction of so much natural habitat. This exhibit gives artists a chance to try and give back to nature, to craft novel wildlife housing and provide new habitat, while showcasing their artistic creativity. Works will be practical to conceptual and will include insect, bird and bat houses to wintering shelters for local mammals. We plan to engage local wildlife organizations and will feature live animal demonstrations!
