The Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library (SRMML) reopens on July 19, 2021 and will present a new exhibition entitled “What’s in a Portrait?”  A portrait is someone’s likeness captured in paint, ink, or in a photograph, but it is also much more. Portraits serve many purposes: they function as personal and family mementos, document accomplishments, or show the owner’s admiration of a celebrated figure.

“What’s in a Portrait?” is a selection of works from the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library that help tell the story of the many people who participated and shaped Masonic and fraternal organizations in the United States for over two hundred years. The show is on view through July 21, 2022.

Raku Workshop with Mike Roche at Munroe Center for the Arts

Adults
Tuesday, October 12 5:30pm - 8:30pm
Saturday October 23 10:00am - 4:00pm
Instructor - Mike Roche

Join Mike for a two-part ceramics workshop celebrating the art of Raku. Derived from a traditional Japanese firing process, this American adaptation creates wild and beautiful surfaces within a matter of hours. Participants will spend one evening making work and learning about the history and practice and an afternoon glazing and firing the wares. As per the process, we will fire the clayworks up to 1800 degrees fahrenheit and quickly remove them from the kiln. They will then be placed in a post-reduction chamber where we will surround them with organic combustibles which will burn and leave their distinct mark on the clay and glaze. Every piece yields unpredictable and unique results only to be obtained through this particular firing process. Be ready to experiment and push the boundaries on what you thought was possible in clay.

Theatre Leadership Presence and Storytelling Workshop
Adults
Thursday 6:00 - 9:00pm
October 21, 2021
Instructor - Rob Salafia

Leadership Presence is how we show up in the context of our role and environment within which we operate. It is best characterized as creating an environment where people and ideas thrive. Leadership storytelling is a method of communicating a complex idea in a clear and powerful way. Stories create an indelible message and are a container for sharing one’s values and important life lessons.

In this 3-hour session you will be introduced to skills for building an engaging and powerful presence. We will introduce the why, how, and what of leadership storytelling. You will learn the structure of a great story, as well as what it takes to “be” a storyteller. In addition, we will introduce several narrative frameworks that can be used in a variety of presentation situations.

The trails are rugged with many ups and downs so hiking boots and walking sticks recommended. Meet at the Johnson Road entrance on Winchester Drive. Park on Johnson Road as the parking lot is small.
