The Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library (SRMML) reopens on July 19, 2021 and will present a new exhibition entitled “What’s in a Portrait?”  A portrait is someone’s likeness captured in paint, ink, or in a photograph, but it is also much more. Portraits serve many purposes: they function as personal and family mementos, document accomplishments, or show the owner’s admiration of a celebrated figure.

“What’s in a Portrait?” is a selection of works from the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library that help tell the story of the many people who participated and shaped Masonic and fraternal organizations in the United States for over two hundred years. The show is on view through July 21, 2022.

Although most of us have come to appreciate the existential threat posed by climate change, we feel powerless to affect it. What policies should be enacted world-wide to minimize the suffering to come? Allen Armstrong will employ an integrated assessment model to examine potential societal actions that could keep global temperature rise within livable limits. The model, En-ROADS, was developed at MIT to include the effects of climate science and economics.

Thursday, Jan 20th @ 4:30 – 6:00 PM ET Register for ZOOM link

Allen Armstrong is a retired mechanical engineer. He is an active member of the Citizens Climate Lobby and a trained presenter of the Climate Reality Project. Like many of us he has children and grandchildren who will live to see the consequences of what we do or fail to do to preserve our climate.

As we welcome a new year, conflicting political forces continue to surge in our midst. Building Bridges, subgroup of ‘Preserve Our Democracy’, will gather on Thursday, January 20th @ 7:30 PM in an effort to better understand the reasoning behind views with which we might disagree. We have found that informing ourselves about conservative news outlets provides a realistic, at times disheartening, glimpse of what many Americans experience daily.

Thursday, Jan 20th @ 7:30 – 8:30 PM ET Request ZOOM link at Admin@FPLex.org

To that end, we suggest that participants watch a conservative media offering in the weeks ahead (from list below or find your own). At the meeting, our task will be to simply describe those points of view, not counter them or offer our own ideas.

It’s human to get anxious, and some anxiety is useful. Yet too much can chronically catapult us to the future, damage our well-being, and hinder our sense of agency. Rev. Kathleen Hepler speaks of ways to frame anxiety so that it becomes less of a constant state, more of an ally. Elizabeth Gemelli serves as our Worship Associate.
