Special "downton Abbey" themed tea event, featuring fashion commentary from 1912-1925

Hearthside has been noted as one of the finest examples of early 19th century federal-style houses in the state, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The unique 2 ½ story house is built of fieldstone,   which was rare in dwellings at that time. Its design includes a gable roof with impressive ogee curves above circular attic windows. There are 10 fireplaces in the 10-room home, hence the name " Hearthside. " Hearthside has become known as "The House That Love Built" because of the romantic history behind the building of this beautiful house by Stephen Hopkins Smith.

Weekly Guided Walking Tours

~ 1670’s Pawtucket: The Jenks Settlement ~

Saturdays, April 23, May 7, 14 & 21; 11:00 a.m.

Join us for our popular walking tour of 1670’s Pawtucket, The Jenks Settlement follows a one-mile path through downtown Pawtucket, Rhode Island, beginning an ending at Old Slater Mill, the Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.

For a century prior to the arrival of Samuel Slater, Pawtucket was a thriving artisan community of ironworkers and ship builders, settled originally by Joseph Jenks, Jr. who left his father’s ironworks in Saugus, MA to establish a forge in Rhode Island. The tour explores the sites of the first forge, the homesteads of the Jenks family members, and other related structures.

$5 per person. Suitable for all ages, but most appropriate for ages 12 and up. Requires some up-hill walking through downtown Pawtucket. Comfortable footwear recommended. 75 minutes. Light rain or shine.

Offered in partnership with the National Park Service, and Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, Inc.

This summer, our big extravaganza to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Friends of Hearthside will be a commemoration of the 20th century's most fascinating decades-the Roaring '20s, the decade of prosperity, decadence, and flamboyance. From throwing out manners and morals, to prohibition, gangsters and scandals, to outrageous fashions, dance and music, this decade changed America.  Our planning committee has been meeting regularly sorting out lots of great ideas; their biggest challenge is fitting everything into this one-day event.  It's shaping up to be quite unique, just as all Hearthside events are. The exhibit will explore many of the key events of the era and as always,  be filled with a combination of learning about our history in a most engaging and fun way! It all happens on Saturday, July 16th.  Plan to be there; it promises to be the "Bees Knees!"

Tower of Power & Average White Band

Saturday, November 12, 2016 7:00pm

On August 13, 1968, Tower of Power, as we know them today, began playing gigs, and soon became very well known in the area. Since the beginning, Tower of Power has never stopped touring and recording. Always in demand, the band never fails to entertain and amaze their fans. AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ the band’s strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi-grammy nominations. While a good number of cuts – ‘Cut The Cake’ and ‘Let’s Go Round Again’- became hit singles, many other album tracks, like ‘Schoolboy Crush’ and ‘Stop The Rain’ became much sampled grooves. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. Tickets start at just $35! All ages welcome.
