“Vanishing Industrial Heritage

of the Blackstone River Valley”

The Gallery at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center:

175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI Hours: Daily 10 am-4 pm

In the spring of 2013 Cindy H. Wilson and David S. Pinkham began photographing mills along the Blackstone River.  During over two years of work they photographed more than 30 mills – some in use, some standing empty - within the Blackstone River Valley watershed from Pawtucket to Worcester, MA.

A total of 40 photographs depict the architecture of mills and express the notion that these mills weren’t just empty buildings but places where people worked.

This show can now be viewed in the Gallery of the Blackstone River Valley Visitors Center - 175 Main Street, Pawtucket - during the months of January and February. The Gallery is open during the same hours as the Visitor Center.

“… Ms. Cash has a voice both dark and sweet, and she knows how to convey the quiet sting of heartache.” —The New York Times

Legendary singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash hits the road with a full band and multimedia experience featuring music from her latest (and finest!) album, “The River & The Thread”, winner of three Grammy awards. Written by Cash and her longtime collaborator and husband, John Leventhal, the songs evoke the American South’s rich landscape—physical, musical, and emotional—and examine the indelible impressions it has made on our collective culture.

The year 2016 marks the 46th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite, America. Founding members, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name”. America’s journey has found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain.  Their best-known tunes, which also include “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Don’t Cross The River,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “Sister Golden Hair” were cornerstones of 1970’s Top 40 and FM rock radio. America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first #1 single.  Forty plus years later, these friends are still making music together, touring the world and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound. Tower of Power & Average White Band

Saturday, November 12, 2016 7:00pm

On August 13, 1968, Tower of Power, as we know them today, began playing gigs, and soon became very well known in the area. Since the beginning, Tower of Power has never stopped touring and recording. Always in demand, the band never fails to entertain and amaze their fans. AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ the band’s strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi-grammy nominations. While a good number of cuts – ‘Cut The Cake’ and ‘Let’s Go Round Again’- became hit singles, many other album tracks, like ‘Schoolboy Crush’ and ‘Stop The Rain’ became much sampled grooves. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm. Tickets start at just $35! All ages welcome.
