When you complete the US Census this year you will be asked to list the number of people living or staying at your home on April 1, 2020, also known as Census Day. A complete and accurate count is critical for you and your community, because the results of the 2020 Census will affect community funding, congressional representation, and more. Visit any of our libraries on Census Day—Wednesday, April 1st—and celebrate getting counted with complementary cookies and a beverage (while supplies last). Use a Library computer or Library WiFi to complete the census online on that day (or on any day, if you can’t join the celebration event). Library staff and volunteers are available to assist as needed. Remember, completing the 2020 Census is safe, easy and important!

    Contact: The Library   717-566-0949 x1204   anorris@dcls.org

As part of the Hari Jones Hidden Histories Program Series, The Library is partnering with the Harrisburg Genealogy Workshop Group (GWG) to meet on the 1st Saturday of each month. This informal network of amateur genealogists was established in 2017 by Harrisburg natives Dr. Sharonn Williams and Mr. Calobe Jackson. These workshop sessions will help new and experienced genealogists from various ethnic backgrounds learn about genealogy and the various resources available that will help them overcome challenges during their genealogical search and uncover their own “hidden histories.” GWG members have varying degrees of experience and gather to learn from and provide support for one another as participants document their lineage.

Presentation and Overview: 10:00 -11:15 AM – anyone new to the GWG or to amateur genealogy research is encouraged to attend this orientation period.

Hands-On Workshop: 11:30 – 1:30 PM – Unless an announced group presentation is scheduled, these arrival and departure times are flexible so that participants can work to complete their own personal family tree, with the support of our instructors.

TIP: If possible, bring your personal device and research documents. Know how to access your personal Email, Ancestry.com and Google accounts.

4 hours.  Registration requested for each monthly meeting, but walk-ins are welcome.  This is an adult program.  You must be 18 or older to attend.  Note: This group meets on the 1st Saturday of each month, except the July meeting, which will be on the 11th.
