Paws 2 Read encourages children of all reading levels to read to the easiest and most willing audience – a dog. Each attendee will read to a registered therapy dog for about 15 minutes. Registration for this program is by appointment. Reading sessions will be held outside as weather permits.

1.5 hours. For ages 6-11 years. Registration is required and limited. This program will be held weekly from September 27-October 25, but please submit separate registrations if you would like to attend more than one date.

Children and adults will enjoy books, music, and rhymes. Early learning activities will be modeled for adults so that learning can continue at home and help your child to build their skills to be ready to succeed at whatever is next.   

About 30 minutes. For families with children of all ages. Registration is required and limited.  Note: Register once for all 5 weeks in the session.

This fall, we're learning to sew by upcycling different textiles with our friend, Holly Etzweiler. We'll start by making a hand-sewn project before moving into week two, where we'll learn the ins and outs of a sewing machine. To conclude, we'll make a more complex, upcycled project together using sewing machines. Whether you're interested in picking up a new skill, or you're looking to renew your enthusiasm for a bygone hobby, we'd love to sew with you! All materials will be provided.

October 25: Upcycling Machine Sewing Project: Quilted Cozy

David Morrison, Executive Director of Historic Harrisburg Association, and Charles Alexander, architect of the renovation project, will share the history of the library and surrounding area, as well as a tour of the library that points to the unique challenges and opportunities that arose while uniting the McCormick Riverfront Library with the Haldeman Haley House.

Through Girl Scouts, a girl learns how to believe in herself as well as count on her community for support. She works as part of a team, brings people together to devise solutions, and respects and appreciates the views of others as much as she does her own. Join other girls to learn about STEM, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and the Great Outdoors. This FREE five-week program will be focused on exploring Girl Scout traditions, engaging hands-on activities, and best practices to become a strong leader. 

 All girls that participate will receive a 2022-23 membership active from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. 

1 hour. For grades 4 through 6. Registration is required and limited.

Join us with special guest Heidi Haas from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit for this unique storytime experience. We will combine the storytimes you know and love with Miss Heidi's expertise in speech pathology to explore early childhood literacy through play, songs, stories, and other engaging activities. This program will go deeper than a traditional storytime by expanding your child's developing skill in reading comprehension, sound production, and fluency.

  • September session: September 16, 23, and 30 (Registration begins Monday, August 15.)
  • October session: October 7, 14, 21, and 28 (Registration begins Monday, September 19.)
  • November session: November 4, 11, and 18 (Registration begins Monday, October 17.)
