Adventure? Check. Monsters? Check. An unlikely group of swashbuckling adventurers? That’s where you come in. Join us on Fridays to battle of some of the worst monstrosities that the fantasy world has to offer. We need you. No... the world needs you. 

1 hour. For ages 10-12 years. Registration is required and limited. The Zoom Group #2 program will be held every other week from October 7-December 2. There is a separate registration for Zoom Group #1.

Join us as we explore gorgeous hiking trails located in Northern Dauphin County! We’ll check out some hidden gems, learn some local history, do creative activities – each hike will offer something different! Please bring water and dress in appropriate layers for the day’s weather. All other activity supplies will be provided.

This hike will take place at Myo Park and will be low difficulty due to flat terrain and perfect for beginners. We will meet in the parking lot near the baseball field.

  • October 2: Nature Hike at Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area in Halifax
  • November 13: Local History Hike at Love Rock near Lykens Glen Park in Lykens

Baby, you are Born to Read! Experience songs and stories together to help your baby learn sounds, language, and a love of books. This program is for parents, grandparents, and caregivers to connect with their babies and each other.  

20 to 30 minutes. For ages birth-18 months. Registration is required and limited.Note: For this session, Monday programs will run for 4 weeks due to The Libary's closure on Monday, October 3.

In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today it’s only 24% and that number is continuing to fall. Join us at The Library to learn basic coding and find out if computer science is the path for you! All girls and non-binary students welcome!  

1 hour. For grades 3 through 5. Registration is required and limited. Note: This program is every other week from October 24-December 5.

Paws 2 Read encourages children of all reading levels to read to the easiest and most willing audience – a dog. Each attendee will read to a registered therapy dog for about 15 minutes. Registration for this program is by appointment. Reading sessions will be held outside as weather permits.

1.5 hours. For ages 6-11 years. Registration is required and limited. This program will be held weekly from September 26-October 24, but please submit separate registrations if you would like to attend more than one date. For Paws 2 Read at ESA, there will be no programming on Monday, October 3 as The Library will be closed.

Through Girl Scouts, a girl learns how to believe in herself as well as count on her community for support. She works as part of a team, brings people together to devise solutions, and respects and appreciates the views of others as much as she does her own. Join other girls to learn about STEM, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and the Great Outdoors. This FREE five-week program will be focused on exploring Girl Scout traditions, engaging hands-on activities, and best practices to become a strong leader. 

 All girls that participate will receive a 2022-23 membership active from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. 

1 hour. For grades 4 through 6. Registration is required and limited.

Come to The Library for a seasonally themed tabletop role-playing game! Together, we’ll eat sweets, slay monsters, and have an incredible adventure. Costumes are more than welcome and encouraged! All skill levels are welcome to attend.  

In October, we’ll be playing Kids on Brooms, a collaborative role-playing game with a rules-light storytelling system about taking on the life of a witch or wizard at a magical school you all attend.  

In December, we’ll be playing Thirsty Sword Lesbians, an innovative, narrative-focused game geared towards telling melodramatic queer stories with friends.

2.5 hours. For ages 18+. Registration required.

This fall, we're learning to sew by upcycling different textiles with our friend, Holly Etzweiler. We'll start by making a hand-sewn project before moving into week two, where we'll learn the ins and outs of a sewing machine. To conclude, we'll make a more complex, upcycled project together using sewing machines. Whether you're interested in picking up a new skill, or you're looking to renew your enthusiasm for a bygone hobby, we'd love to sew with you! All materials will be provided.
