Join us for an hour of Spanish conversation, facilitated by Dr. Hector Ortiz. Each month, we’ll begin our session with a short grammar lesson before branching out into discussion. Whether you speak Spanish fluently or you are just beginning to learn the language, we welcome you to come together in community and conversation.   

In October, we welcome you to join us at Mission Mofongo & Mas for conversation over dinner.

Through Girl Scouts, a girl learns how to believe in herself as well as count on her community for support. She works as part of a team, brings people together to devise solutions, and respects and appreciates the views of others as much as she does her own. Join other girls to learn about STEM, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and the Great Outdoors. This FREE five-week program will be focused on exploring Girl Scout traditions, engaging hands-on activities, and best practices to become a strong leader. 

 All girls that participate will receive a 2022-23 membership active from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. 

1 hour. For grades 4 through 6. Registration is required and limited.

Join us with special guest Heidi Haas from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit for this unique storytime experience. We will combine the storytimes you know and love with Miss Heidi's expertise in speech pathology to explore early childhood literacy through play, songs, stories, and other engaging activities. This program will go deeper than a traditional storytime by expanding your child's developing skill in reading comprehension, sound production, and fluency.

  • September session: September 16, 23, and 30 (Registration begins Monday, August 15.)
  • October session: October 7, 14, 21, and 28 (Registration begins Monday, September 19.)
  • November session: November 4, 11, and 18 (Registration begins Monday, October 17.) 

1.5 hours. For ages 3-5 years. Registration is required and limited. Register monthly for limited spots.

Tell stories, cast spells, defeat the bad guy with Dungeons and Dragons! For beginners or experts. No dice, books, or characters required.    

2 hours. For ages 13-18. Registration is required and limited. Note: Register once for all 5 weeks in the session.

Adventure? Check. Monsters? Check. An unlikely group of swashbuckling adventurers? That’s where you come in. Join us on Fridays to battle of some of the worst monstrosities that the fantasy world has to offer. We need you. No... the world needs you. 

1 hour. For ages 10-12 years. Registration is required and limited. The Zoom Group #1 program will be held every other week from September 30-December 9 with no program on November 25. There is a separate registration for Zoom Group #2.

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will be partnering with The Library to accept blood donations. Not only will your donation save lives, but you’ll also get a snack!

You must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with parental consent.

6 hours. For ages 17+. Registration is strongly suggested. Walk-ins are welcome, but donors with appointments will be taken first. A form of ID is REQUIRED to donate. Register at 717GiveBlood.org and click “Donate Now” or call 1-800-771-0059.

Have you wanted to take the plunge into researching your family’s history but are not sure how to start? Join our Information Services staff as we commemorate National Family History Month with an interactive workshop created to help you get your research started on the right foot. You will gain some helpful knowledge, get started on filling out important forms and learn how to avoid common mistakes from the beginning. Forms will be provided but feel free to bring your mobile device and any "getting started” materials questions you may have.

20 to 30 minutes. For ages birth-18 months. Registration is required and limited.Note: For this session, Monday programs will run for 4 weeks due to The Libary's closure on Monday, October 3.

Paws 2 Read encourages children of all reading levels to read to the easiest and most willing audience – a dog. Each attendee will read to a registered therapy dog for about 15 minutes. Registration for this program is by appointment. Reading sessions will be held outside as weather permits.

1.5 hours. For ages 6-11 years. Registration is required and limited. This program will be held weekly from September 26-October 24, but please submit separate registrations if you would like to attend more than one date. For Paws 2 Read at ESA, there will be no programming on Monday, October 3 as The Library will be closed.
