Join The Library and the Commonwealth Monument Project each month to learn from presenters who are advancing cultural and heritage tourism experiences in Central Pennsylvania while animating democracy through public arts and placemaking programs. 

The series is inspired by the Commonwealth Monument Project’s dynamic new installation entitled “A Gathering at the Crossroads” – the first African American monument on the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Complex in Harrisburg. 

2 hours. For ages 15+. Registration is required. Registration is available for virtual and in-person programs. Registrants for virtual programs will be emailed with further instructions.

Join us with special guest Heidi Haas from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit for this unique storytime experience. We will combine the storytimes you know and love with Miss Heidi's expertise in speech pathology to build phonetic awareness and prepare for kindergarten through play, songs, stories, and other engaging activities. Parents, you will be equipped with tools to further your child's literacy development at home too!  

1.5 hours. For ages 4-5 years. Registration is required and limited. Register monthly for limited spots.

We know that the daily grind can be stressful – that’s why we’re setting aside time each month for a fun and relaxing craft! Join us for a calming afternoon of crafting. All skill levels are more than welcome to come and enjoy. 

2 hours. For ages 18+. Registration is required and separate for each month.

Do you love Graphic Novels? Have you ever wanted to try your hand at creating them yourself? Learn character and page design, how to tell your own story, and create your own short graphic novel. All while discussing an assortment of graphic novels for inspiration! 

1 hour. For ages 8-13 years. Registration is required and limited.

Join us for an evening of wine tasting, art making, and fun at Broad Mountain Vineyard. Let your creative side shine with an art project with local artist Chris Pettman. Then, sample and savor the flavors and aromas of a selection of local wines. Enjoy light refreshments and the company of fellow wine and art enthusiasts as you relax and unwind. 

2 hours. For ages 21+. Registration is required. Location: Broad Mountain Vineyard, 596 Harman Road, Halifax.

        There are 21 spaces available.

Paws 2 Read encourages children of all reading levels to read to the easiest and most willing audience – a dog. Each attendee will read to a registered therapy dog for about 15 minutes. Registration for this program is by appointment. Reading sessions will be held outside as weather permits. 

SCHEDULE UPDATE!!! 

Our furry, reading friends will be joining us more frequently!! Participating library locations will host the Paws pups every other week April through May and then again September through November.  Each week will offer multiple chances to read to one of our volunteer dog teams!  

1 hour. 15-minute appointments. For ages 6-11 years. Registration is required and limited.

Explore hands on STEAM activities and augmented reality through the new zSpace computers. Special guest, Tom Diffenbach, and students from around the world will engage with STEAM, exploring both the real world and augmented reality (AR) experiences to learn about the world around them. The program will focus on great structures throughout the world, how they were built, and AR will allow students to explore them in new ways. 

1 hour. For ages 11-14 years. Registration is required and limited. Register once to attend both months.
