An ongoing event, A Day in the Life of a Quaranteen asks for a written documentary of your life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Entries can be essays, poems, journal entries, or written song describing your life, thoughts, and feelings about COVID-19. One to two submissions will be displayed in our quarterly teen newsletter. One volunteer hour is possible per article for participants. Your article will need to be approved by a library staff member before you will be given service hours. Articles need to follow the guidelines to be approved, and may be sent back to you if anything is missing.
Age: Must be between grades 7-12
Library Card: Must have a valid Monmouth County Library Card.
Service Hours Given: 1 hour per article submission upon library approval.
Limit of two submissions per person.
Submission: Please submit your article through this Google Form.
Attention Parent/Guardian: It is highly recommended that your teen is responsible for all correspondence regarding the Teen Volunteer Program; starting with the review submission process and continuing throughout their volunteer service. This program strives to prepare your child for his/her first job. We feel that the more responsibility that volunteers have in the successful execution of completing their service, the better prepared he or she will be to apply for jobs and enter the workforce. When at all possible, please ask your teen to call, email, organize, and initiate! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Deni Bonet Brings Love and Joy with Monmouth County Library's Exclusive Concert Celebrating "Library Lovers' Month"
Enjoy the amazing talents of quirky, engaging songstress magician of the Blue Violin!
It's no secret that Deni can rock a violin like nobody's business. Or that she writes memorable songs that make you want to listen again and again. For years, Deni has been honing her craft as a violinist, singer, songwriter and performer. She is, simply, the whole musical package. Her style ranges from pop to roots-rock, to new folk.
On a personal mission to prove that there is more to the violin than concertos and hoedowns, Deni has become an in-demand act from headlining at performing arts centers & festivals, to Carnegie Hall and The United Nations; from singing and performing at colleges and clubs, to the White House for President and Michele Obama and then Vice-President Biden.
As with all good artists, Deni has grown to show a broader and more expansive scope. Deni will share her talents as a musician and composer to an even higher plane during this Live “Love, Deni” Concert.
Recording of this concert in any manner is strictly prohibited; this performance is protected by copyright law.
Internet access is required to attend. The concert will be rebroadcast throughout February, also available through the Library's webpage: MonmouthCountyLib.org

Power of African American Stories in the Art of Bisa Butler
Now on our Website - A rebroadcast of this presentation of Historian & Cultural Activist Thelma Armstrong; Moderated by Andrea McPherson
Ms. Armstrong will share images and discuss the works of Artist Bisa Butler. While African American artists have been telling powerful stories through their art, both in Black Culture as well as in the dominant culture, there is still a vacuum of dislocation to the pre-slavery past. In the world of art, overflowing with a myriad of artistic expressions, many wonder what else can be added to the canon to create something new, different, uniquely designed to speak to the African Diaspora? Ms. Armstrong will present how Bisa Butler found an artistic method to salve the fractures of loss and also inspire emotional depth through connectedness.
Bisa Butler is an American artist known for celebrating black life through her portraits and designs. Her art has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the Epcot Center, and the National Underground Railroad Center, to name a few.
Thelma Armstrong is a Scholar and Cultural Activist who is passionate about the "lived lives" of members of diverse communities. She received her MA in Historical Studies in 2008. Eighteenth Century Women's History became her focus, with a specific emphasis on women of color.
Andrea McPherson is the Vice President and Portfolio Director of Financial Crimes & Fraud Management at TD Bank, the co-creator of the Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School steel drum band The Manala-PANS, and a member of the Manalapan Arts Council.
This session will be available to watch via the Library's website, open and free for all to watch; registration is not needed, however, internet access is required to attend. Click here to watch: MonmouthCountyLib.org
