Gait and balance training is a type of physical therapy that may help improve your ability to stand and walk. Your doctor may recommend this if you've had an illness or injury that affects your ability to get around.

Gait training can help strengthen your muscles and joints, improve your balance and posture, build your endurance, develop your muscle memory, and lower your risk of falls while increasing your mobility.  It may also lower your risk of other illnesses, such as heart disease and osteoporosis, by increasing your physical activity and mobility, helping to protect and improve your overall health.

Co-sponsored by Arbor Terrace of Shrewsbury and Fox Rehabilitation.

Thanks to the Friends of the Monmouth County Library for providing the refreshments.

Inspired by the fascinating true story described in the widely-read New York Magazine article, “The Hustlers at Scores,” Hustlers follows a group of strippers who band together to turn the tables on their crude and greedy Wall Street clients, many of whom were responsible for the 2008 financial crisis. With no criminal background, this savvy band of women put together an elaborate, yet dangerous con to steal from their deep-pocketed clientele. Set against the backdrop of post-recession America, this crew sticks it to the New York hedge fund managers who prospered while bankrupting mainstream America, ultimately getting in deeper than they intended. Directed by Lorene Sacafaria. Starring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lizzo, and Cardi B.

"All we do, mija, is love. Love is the answer. Nothing stops it. Not borders. Not death."

In his final days, beloved and ailing patriarch Miguel Angel de La Cruz, affectionately called Big Angel, has summoned his entire clan for one last legendary birthday party. But as the party approaches, his mother, nearly one hundred, dies, transforming the weekend into a farewell doubleheader. Among the guests is Big Angel's half brother, known as Little Angel, who must reckon with the truth that although he shares a father with his siblings, he has not, as a half gringo, shared a life.

Across two bittersweet days in their San Diego neighborhood, the revelers mingle among the palm trees and cacti, celebrating the lives of Big Angel and his mother, and recounting the many inspiring tales that have passed into family lore, the acts both ordinary and heroic that brought these citizens to a fraught and sublime country and allowed them to flourish in the land they have come to call home.

The story of Javed, a British teen of Pakistani descent, growing up in the town of Luton, England, in 1987, amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times, he writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the inflexibility of his traditional father. But when a classmate introduces him to the music of “the Boss,” Javed sees parallels to his working-class life in Springsteen’s powerful lyrics. As Javed discovers a cathartic outlet for his own pent-up dreams, he also begins to find the courage to express himself in his own unique voice. Directed by Gurinder Chadha.

2020 Census Jobs

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting to fill hundreds of thousands of temporary positions across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count.

Could you use extra income? Jobs for the 2020 Census offer competitive wages that are paid weekly.  Authorized expenses, such as mileage, are reimbursed for employees doing field work.  Temporary positions for the 2020 Census feature flexible hours -- a perfect fit if you are looking to earn extra money, even if you already have other commitments.

Census results are used to determine your representation in Congress and they help inform how billions of dollars are distributed for hospitals, schools, roads, and more.  Help ensure that everyone in your community is counted in the 2020 Census.  Every 10 years, since 1790, the United States has undertaken the momentous task of counting its population.  This is your chance to play a role.

Want to know how you can work for the U.S. Census?  A representative will be in the library lobby to answer your questions.

Presenter Linda Ely, through seeking the 'science' of organizing, has identified the organizing principles that give you control over the things in your world that you need to keep and want to keep.  She identifies the conflicting principles that frustrate and block success, and gives you the tools to apply the right principle in the right place at the right time.  Linda will shine a light on why your best efforts to get organized and STAY organized sometimes fail; and what you can do about it!

Linda Ely is the owner of Organizing Matters.  She's an Organization Consultant and a member of NAPO the National Association of Professional Organizers.  Linda has been in homes helping clients get organized and take control of papers, time, and the stuff of life for over 20 years; first in Houston Texas, then back home in New Jersey.  She rolls up her sleeves and helps her clients dig out of clutter and restore peace, order and beauty in their homes and offices.  She provides ideas, resources and product recommendations, and referrals that help clients increase productivity and peace of mind.

Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann

In Killers of the Flower Moon, writer and journalist David Grann offers an intimately detailed account of a little-known but devastating chapter in American history: the Osage Reign of Terror, officially recognized as a period of five years from 1921 to 1926 during which upwards of twenty Osage Indians were murdered in cold blood for access to their valuable shares of oil money. The Osage, whose reservation just outside of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, once sat atop one of the largest oil deposits in the country, and whose legal protection under tribal law gave each member of the tribe a headright (a share of the mineral trust), were the wealthiest group of people in the country per capita by the early 1920s.

Based on the seminal James Ellroy crime novel, L.A. Confidential is a hard-boiled tale of crime and corruption that takes place in 1953 when Los Angeles was being vigorously transformed into the metropolis of the future through the influences of population explosion, civic promotion and the pervasive reach of television. During this heady era, a cast of gritty colorful characters on both sides of the law intersect in a web of corruption and deceit. Three cops, a call girl, a mysterious millionaire, and a tabloid journalist fuel a labyrinthine plot rife with mystery, ambition, romance and humor. Directed by Curtis Hanson. Starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger.

From writer/director/producer Gurinder Chadha ("Bend It Like Beckham") comes the inspirational drama "Blinded by the Light," set to the music and lyrics of Bruce Springsteen's timeless songs. "Blinded by the Light" tells the story of Javed (Viveik Kalra), a British teen of Pakistani descent, growing up in the town of Luton, England, in 1987. Amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times, he writes poetry as a means to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the inflexibility of his traditional father. But when his classmate introduces him to the music of "the Boss," Javed sees parallels to his working-class life in Springsteen's powerful lyrics. As Javed discovers a cathartic outlet for his own pent-up dreams, he also begins to find the courage to express himself in his own unique voice. Based on Sarfraz Manzoor's acclaimed memoir, Greetings from Bury Park, "Blinded by the Light" is a joyous story of courage, love, hope, family, and the unique ability of music to lift the human spirit. Directed by Gurinder Chadha. Starring Viviek Kalra, Kulvinder Ghir, Meera Ganatra, Aaron Phagura, and Dean-Charles Chapman.
