z_cust_teens.png A Day in the Life of a Quaranteen - Submit an article for Volunteer Hours! Download Event Info Download Event Info Tell a Friend
    Contact: Teen Programming     mclteen@monmouthcountylib.org

An ongoing event, A Day in the Life of a Quaranteen asks for a written documentary of your life during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Entries can be essays, poems, journal entries, or written song describing your life, thoughts, and feelings about COVID-19. One to two submissions will be displayed in our quarterly teen newsletter.  One volunteer hour is possible per article for participants. Your article will need to be approved by a library staff member before you will be given service hours.  Articles need to follow the guidelines to be approved, and may be sent back to you if anything is missing.

Age: Must be between grades 7-12

Library Card: Must have a valid Monmouth County Library Card.

Service Hours Given: 1 hour per article submission upon library approval.

Limit of two submissions per person.

Submission: Please submit your article through this Google Form

Attention Parent/Guardian: It is highly recommended that your teen is responsible for all correspondence regarding the Teen Volunteer Program; starting with the review submission process and continuing throughout their volunteer service. This program strives to prepare your child for his/her first job. We feel that the more responsibility that volunteers have in the successful execution of completing their service, the better prepared he or she will be to apply for jobs and enter the workforce. When at all possible, please ask your teen to call, email, organize, and initiate!  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

You may have seen Jamie on morning TV, read her newest book Keep This, Toss That, watched her YouTube show, or listened to her 10 Minute Podcast. Jamie spends most days presenting virtual programs on how to de-stress and de-clutter, with a humorous twist.

This session will be conducted on Zoom and is free of charge. Registration and internet access are required to attend.  Register below to receive emailed information on how to access the program.  Registration will close on March 9 at noon, and the link will be emailed by 4pm that same day.

Bound for Amerikay: The Irish Emigrant Experience with McDermott's Handy

Virtual Concert  Premieres on Sunday, March 14 at 2:00pm - Thanks for your patience!

Everyone will have access at 2pm on Sunday 3/14 with  THIS        link!

Join us for songs and stories about the times of Irish immigrants leaving everything behind for the fabled land of freedom, with streets paved with gold and untold wealth and opportunity.  Kathy DeAngelo and Dennis Gormley will perform from the Irish viewpoint, but in essence it is the story of every ethnic group who has struggled in their homeland against political upheaval and repression.  Though they have endured grinding poverty and racial or religious persecution, they have persevered to build something better for their children, with a new life in America.

Enjoy this concert of traditional Irish music on fiddle, harp, flute, guitar, banjo, and tin whistle with the award-winning duet who have been performing together for more than 40 years.

A "handy" is a set of Irish tunes collected and titled in a person's honor.  Gormley and DeAngelo began playing Irish music together in 1977 after both were mentored by the respected New Jersey fiddler Ed McDermott, whom they named their duo after. They are multi-instrumentalists and have performed hundreds of educational programs at schools, libraries, festivals and community events.

All Library programs and concerts are protected by copyright law; recording in any manner is strictly prohibited.

Little Women (2019) (PG) – Writer-director Greta Gerwig has crafted a film that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. Gerwig’s take on the beloved story of the March sisters, four young women determined to live life on their own terms, is both timeless and timely. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Laura Dern, and Meryl Streep.

Bound for Amerikay: The Irish Emigrant Experience with McDermott's Handy

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Enjoy Virtual Concert  with  THIS        link  through the end of March!

Join us in spirit, if not in person, for songs and stories about the times of Irish immigrants leaving everything behind for the fabled land of freedom, with streets paved with gold and untold wealth and opportunity.

Historically Speaking, A Virtual Lecture Series

Bernadette Rogoff Presents: We are Present and Future Women - Freehold Young Ladies' Seminary, 1845-1898

Presented by the Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHA). Co-Sponsored by the Monmouth County Library

In Celebration of Women's History Month

Bernadette Rogoff, author and Director of Collections at MCHA, has been curating Monmouth County history for three decades. Her impressive career has established her as one of the premier historians of Monmouth County history, with a staggering breadth of knowledge that is matched only by her natural storytelling ability.

There is no "one way" to classify the areas that Bernadette specialized in - from portraiture to 18th and 19th century textile identification and preservation, to the most unique and obscure objects in the collection!  This lecture will spotlight the Freehold Young Ladies' Seminary, one of the most prestigious female educational institutions on the eastern seaboard, as well as give a glimpse into the lives of some of the impressive young ladies who attended, using primary source documents and objects from MCHA's collection.

Register below and join us on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm for a virtual lecture presented by Monmouth County's most interesting and well-respected historians!

This series of programs is virtual, presented via Zoom, and is free of charge.  Registration and internet access are required to attend. Register below to receive emailed information on how to access the discussion. The link will be emailed the business day before the program between 3:00 and 4:00 pm, after registration closes at noon on 3/17/21.

Bound for Amerikay: The Irish Emigrant Experience with McDermott's Handy

Enjoy Virtual  Concert  with  THIS        link  through the end of March!

Bound for Amerikay: The Irish Emigrant Experience with McDermott's Handy

Enjoy Virtual Concert  with  THIS        link  through the end of March!

All This Could Be Yours by Jami Attenberg

Jami Attenberg explores what it means to be caught in the web of a toxic man whose actions affect a family for generations. "If I know why he is the way he is then maybe I can learn why I am the way I am," says Alex Tuchman, daughter of Victor Tuchman--a power-hungry real estate developer and, by all accounts, a bad man. Now that Victor is on his deathbed, Alex travels to New Orleans to finally unearth the secrets of who he is and what he did over the course of his life and career. As each family member grapples with Victor’s history, they must figure out a way to move forward—with one another, for themselves, and for the sake of their children.

Bound for Amerikay: The Irish Emigrant Experience with McDermott's Handy

Enjoy Virtual Concert  with  THIS        link  through the end of March!

These women worked in motor pools, staffed offices, nursed the injured, lived in barracks, ate in mess halls, went to war zones, and died for their country.

Mary Rasa is a historian who worked as a museum curator and park ranger for the National Park Service for 16 years. She holds a BA in Historic Preservation and a Masters in Library Science. She has conducted over one thousand programs for audiences, from school children to academic and professional conferences, seniors groups and historical societies.
