Attention Parent/Guardian: It is highly recommended that your teen is responsible for all correspondence regarding the Teen Volunteer Program; starting with the review submission process and continuing throughout their volunteer service. This program strives to prepare your child for his/her first job. We feel that the more responsibility that volunteers have in the successful execution of completing their service the better prepared he or she will be to apply for jobs and enter the workforce. When at all possible, please ask your teen to call, email, organize, and initiate!  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please note that the books in our teen sections cover a wide range of ages and vary in content and maturity level. Parents and/or guardians have the right and responsibility to determine their own children’s access to library resources.

Choose Your Own Path: Virtual Yoga available 24/7 throughout Fall 2021

Presented by Yogi Steven Russell of Becoming Sound.

Yoga offers your body and mind many paths to de-stress, to improve flexibility, to unwind. Deep breathing and slow stretching movements warm the muscles, while a  standing pose may build  balance and strength.  During Fall months, we hope you will choose your own path with movements from six of the most popular Library-video class series, offered by Yogi Steven Russell of Becoming Sound.

They are:  Yoga Breathing;  Yoga Stretching; Yoga Movement;Yoga Stretching with Support;  Yoga at Home on the Floor and Yoga at Home Standing.

These six classes  will be available 24/7 for you to choose your program  throughout the September.

Access all Six Programs Playlist   HERE   on the Library's YouTube Channel (this is the link: https://bit.ly/MonCoLibraryYoga)  and/or access through the Library's website.

Although moderate physical activity is safe for most people, health experts suggest that you talk with your doctor before you start any exercise program.

By the Light of Tiffany: A Virtual Meeting with Clara Driscoll

Live, Virtual One-Woman Theatrical Performance

Created, written, and performed by Leanna Renee Hieber with letters of Clara Driscoll

Award-winning author, playwright and classically trained actress Leanna Renee Hieber channels the talented artist Clara Wolcott Driscoll, designer of iconic Tiffany lamps and the manager of the Women’s Glass Cutting Department of Tiffany Studios from the late 19th century until 1909. Infused with passion and dedication, By the Light of Tiffany is a one-hour, one-woman theatrical presentation adapted from Driscoll’s personal letters, historical record, and inspiring insights. This ‘virtual meeting with the artist’ showcases the vitality, innovation, and importance of Driscoll, emblematic of the role of women as leaders in the decorative arts movement.

Join us for a window into a lively life devoted to art, light, and beauty. Q&A session to follow.

Leanna Renee Hieber graduated from Miami University with a BFA in theatre and a focus in the 19th Century. She has performed in regional theatres around the country starring in Shakespeare, classical theatre, and adapting 19th century literature for the professional stage. She is a licensed New York City tour guide, a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA and has been featured in film and television shows like Boardwalk Empire and Mysteries at the Museum.

Virtual History Book Discussion and Author Talk: Who Tells Your Story?

Madhouse at The End of The Earth: The Belgica's Journey into The Dark Antarctic Night by Julian Sancton

Meet the Author: Julian Sanction
Julian Sancton is a senior features editor at Departures magazine, where he writes about culture and travel. His work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, The New Yorker, Wired, and Playboy, among other publications. He has reported from every continent, including Antarctica, which he first visited while researching his book. Find a recent excerpt here: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2021/04/exclusive-excerpt-an-icy-death-at-the-bottom-of-the-world

****************************

In August 1897, the young Belgian commandant Adrien de Gerlache set sail for a three-year expedition aboard the good ship Belgica, destination the icy continent of Antarctica. In Madhouse at the End of the Earth, Julian Sancton unfolds an epic story of adventure and horror for the ages. Drawing on the diaries and journals of the Belgica’s crew and with exclusive access to the ship’s logbook, Sancton brings us the story of human extremes, one so remarkable that even today NASA studies it for research on isolation for future missions to Mars. Equal parts maritime thriller and gothic horror, Madhouse at the End of the Earth is an unforgettable journey into the deep.

Your Children Don't Want It - What Should You Do? Moving Home and Downsizing

A Virtual Program presented by author, auctioneer, appraiser and radio show host Mike Ivankovich

He is a frequent lecturer, a published author of more than 20 books and eBooks, as well as numerous articles and columns for most major national trade papers. Archaeologist and Author Richard Veit, PhD, Presents -
What Lies Beneath: Recent Archaeological Investigations at Marlpit Hall and the Allen House

Presented by the Monmouth County Historical Association; Co-sponsored by the Monmouth County Library

Dr. Rich Veit will be giving us a glimpse into an actual archaeological dig! Discover what secrets this fascinating process can reveal. Recent excavations at historic Marlpit Hall in Middletown, both interior and exterior, have yielded amazing information about those who lived there long ago. While the exterior dig is ongoing, every inch gives clues further into the past. We invite you to investigate along with us!

Dr. Richard F. Veit is a Professor of Anthropology and Interim Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Monmouth University. He is the President of the Middle Atlantic Archaeological Conference, and his research has been featured on NPR, in Archaeology Magazine and at 2014's TEDx Navesink. He has authored five books, which have received awards from the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office, New Jersey Academic Studies Alliance, and the New Jersey Center for the Book at Rutgers University. He serves on the New Jersey Historical Commission and on the boards of the Council for Northeast Historical Archaeology, Crossroads of the American Revolution, and the Archaeological Society of New Jersey.
