A WOMAN OF HEART AND MIND: JONI MITCHELL (2002, 120)
Monday,  July 23 at 6pm

One of the great talents of her or anyone else's generation gets the royal treatment with this superb two-hour (with bonus material) documentary. It's all here (via interviews, including conversations past and present with Mitchell herself, photos, generous helpings of concert footage, and more): her Saskatchewan childhood, her lovers, her painting, her reunion with the daughter she had left behind at age 19... and, of course, her music, the songs, recordings, and performances, so intensely personal yet so universally accessible.

THE GREATEST EARS IN TOWN: THE ARIF MARDIN STORY
( Various Artists, 2010, 143 min.)
Monday,  August 20 at 6pm

The Greatest Ears in Town is an insightful documentary and testimonial to Arif Mardin; the producer, arranger, musician and multi Grammy award winner. Although not a household name in his own right, the artists that Arif produced and worked with certainly are. Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, The Bee Gees, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand and Norah Jones are just a sprinkling of the talent he humbly nurtured during his lifetime.

Charlotte Taylor, an Archaeologist at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission to host speaking engagement on the topic, “Shipwrecks of Rhode Island” at the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library during the town-wide celebration of Narragansett - Gansett Days.

Join us on Sat., Sept. 15, 2018 at 2 PM and learn how Rhode Island, the Ocean State, has more shipwrecks per square mile than any other state! This presentation documents the history of numerous shipwrecks along the coast of Narragansett, going as far back as the 17th century. Many of the shipwrecks from the 19th to the 20th century have been captured in dramatic photographs, and these pictures show the variety of vessels that traveled Rhode Island's waters back when the ocean was the primary transportation corridor and the many ways things went terribly wrong for them. Ms. Charlotte Taylor, has been part of archaeological survey projects on several of the shipwrecks included in this presentation.

Registration is recommended as space is limited.  For more information, please call the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library at 401-789-9507 or email narlib@narlib.org
