The current six-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation continues tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for six weeks on January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this six-class session is $72.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted. 

The class includes a one-hour period of Yoga instruction, with variations in difficultly suitable for new to experienced practioners, and with a half-hour of meditation to follow.  There is another, separate Beginner/Intermediate Yoga class taught by another teacher following this class at 7:30 p.m.  The classes are not interchangeable; you must attend the same session for which you registered for the entire five weeks. 

Payment for this session ($72.00) can be made in person at the Information Desk at the time of registraion by check or money order made payable to The Friends of the South Brunswick Library. You can also register online and pay by credit card by clicking on the Register button below.  On your confirmation page, you will see a PayPal Buy Now button that you can use to make a credit card payment. You will not be considered registered with a guaranteed place in the class until you have made your payment.  If there are not a minimum of five students registered, the class may be cancelled.

The Library Board of Trustees meets ten times per year, usually on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Local History Room.  Chack the calendar for changes to this schedule.  The Board of Trustees have their summer meeting on August 8 (no meeting in July), the September meeting on September 12, the October meeting on October 24 and the year end meeting on December 5. (No meeting in November).

Mark your calendars and join us at the library on the third or fouth Wednesday of the month as we expand our knowledge and open our minds with compelling and entertaining documentaries or lectures on culture and the arts.

But their rivalry takes an unexpected turn when they discover a common foe and combine their skills in a fusion of East and West.

According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Using yoga, stories, and play, this children's workshop provides children with opportunities to grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Mrs. Shari Silverman, a special education teacher from the South Brunswick School District with over 30 years of teaching experience, will assist.

The current six-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation continues tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for six weeks on January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this six-class session is $72.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted. 

The class includes a one-hour period of Yoga instruction, with variations in difficultly suitable for new to experienced practioners, and with a half-hour of meditation to follow.  There is another, separate Beginner/Intermediate Yoga class taught by another teacher following this class at 7:30 p.m.  The classes are not interchangeable; you must attend the same session for which you registered for the entire five weeks. 

Payment for this session ($72.00) can be made in person at the Information Desk at the time of registraion by check or money order made payable to The Friends of the South Brunswick Library. According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The current six-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation continues tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for six weeks on January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this six-class session is $72.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted. 

The class includes a one-hour period of Yoga instruction, with variations in difficultly suitable for new to experienced practioners, and with a half-hour of meditation to follow.  There is another, separate Beginner/Intermediate Yoga class taught by another teacher following this class at 7:30 p.m.  The classes are not interchangeable; you must attend the same session for which you registered for the entire five weeks.

The Teen Volunteer Association (TVA) is open to students in Grades 6-12.  Appointments to the group are made depending on interest in the group and according to the essay portion on the Teen Volunteer Application.

TVA is, essentially, a student council for the library & help with determining the direction of teen events as well as finding ways for the library to contribute to the community at large.  There are rules for joining and requirements to stay a member; but it IS a volunteer opportunity and it IS rewarding if you are willing to put in the time and energy.

Membership in the TVA is not required in order to be a volunteer at the library.  If you wish to be a member indicate your interest and fill out the essay portion on the Teen Volunteer Application.  Saleena will contact all prospective members.

We’ll cover the many health benefits of a plant based diet, basic nutrition, what products are available in the supermarket, why you might want to choose organic and non-GMO foods and transitioning to a more compassionate lifestyle. Handouts will include menus and recipes and learn how you and your family can enjoy these wonderful nutritious foods. Join Susan Rose, Vegetarian Lifestyle Coach who will present a simple meditation technique that can be practiced at home by young and old.

BIO: Susan has been a vegetarian and meditating for over 40 years.  She has been cooking and studying nutrition with an emphasis on plant-based whole foods and recently completed a course in Plant Based Nutrition from E-Cornell and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. She enjoys cooking for family and friends and creating recipes that are quick and easy to make.  Since retiring from a senior executive position in Sales & Marketing from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, she has conducted numerous talks and workshops around the world on the vegetarian lifestyle and is co-editor of a cookbook called Veggies & You. She will share information on how a plant based diet is healthy, gentle to the planet, and how it can enhance our spiritual development.

Image result for Decoupage trash canToday we will be making a decoupaged trash basket using ModPodge and decorative paper.  If you have favorite (scrapbook) papers with patterns you like or some left over wall paper that matches your decor, bring it in for your use.  

In 2019, the Adult Crafternoon program will continue on the first Wednesday afternoon every month from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in Program Room 1A/1B. We will continue to do a variety of craft projects using recycled materials, whenever possible, that we are going to repurpose (or up-cycle) into Eco-Friendly objects and gifts. The specific projects will be posted in this calendar and a list of items we will be using will be available so that participants can contribute some of the materials.

Registration (below) is recommended.  The class is limited to 8 adults.  Unreserved and no-show seats will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  The doors will be closed at 1:40 p.m. and no one else will be admitted once the class begins.

Please plan to arrive 5 minutes early so that the class can begin on time.    Children will not be allowed in the classroom.

According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The current six-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation continues tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for six weeks on January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this six-class session is $72.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted.
