The current six-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation continues tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for six weeks on January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this six-class session is $72.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted. 

The class includes a one-hour period of Yoga instruction, with variations in difficultly suitable for new to experienced practioners, and with a half-hour of meditation to follow.  There is another, separate Beginner/Intermediate Yoga class taught by another teacher following this class at 7:30 p.m.  The classes are not interchangeable; you must attend the same session for which you registered for the entire five weeks. 

Payment for this session ($72.00) can be made in person at the Information Desk at the time of registraion by check or money order made payable to The Friends of the South Brunswick Library. You can also register online and pay by credit card by clicking on the Register button below.  On your confirmation page, you will see a PayPal Buy Now button that you can use to make a credit card payment. You will not be considered registered with a guaranteed place in the class until you have made your payment.  If there are not a minimum of five students registered, the class may be cancelled.

Image result for adult coloring pagesCome to the library for our weekly "Color Me Calm" time of relaxation. conversation and adult coloring.  Materials will be available for mindfulness relaxation therapy while you color, draw and doodle OR catch up with friends and meet other fellow colorers OR bring your current craft project to work on with like minded friends.  Come release your inner child and enjoy a cup of tea!    

Adults only.  This is not a class; specific instruction will not be given.

Every Tuesday morning from 10:00 to noon you can come to color and draw OR you can bring your own craft project - knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing or other hand crafts.

Description:  "Letters from the IRS" is going to cover the types of correspondence one may receive from this government agency and how to appropriately respond to any such letters.  

Presenter Bio:  Fred Ulshafer has been a tax professional for 28 years. He is a Master Tax Advisor and Enrolled Agent. His areas of expertise include: Small Business, Sole Proprietor, or Self-employed, Tax Audit & Notice Services, Investments/Stock Options (income, sales, losses), Home Ownership, Purchase, or Sale, Retirement Income and Income from multiple states.

Princeton SCORE offers Business Seminars on the fourth Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise noted in this calendar) in the South Brunswick Public Library. The topics will be announced on the SCORE Princeton website at http://princeton.score.org/localworkshops

Image result for civilizations pbsThis winter, we will continue showing the recent BBC/PBS Series "Civilizations" hosted by the very popular Simon Schama, Professor at Columbia University and other scholars.  Today we will view Episode 5 - "Renaissances."   Travel east and west— to Renaissance Italy and the contemporaneous Islamic empires. 

Mark your calendars and join us at the library on the third or fouth Wednesday of the month as we expand our knowledge and open our minds with compelling and entertaining documentaries or lectures on culture and the arts.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch.  Coffee, tea and dessert will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the South Brunswick Library.

A Cantonese street cook and his chief rival, a French-trained Michelin-starred chef, discover they have a lot in common, as they prepare for a world-famous culinary competition. An international culinary competition becomes a battleground between rival cooks, one famous for his Cantonese street food and the other a Michelin-starred chef trained in France. But their rivalry takes an unexpected turn when they discover a common foe and combine their skills in a fusion of East and West.

According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The South Brunswick Knitting and Crocheting Group meets every Monday night (when the library is open). The meeting is in Program Room 1B (Craft Room) unless otherwise noted. The group meets to knit, crochet and do other fiber arts and to share tips, patterns, and good conversation. The group is open to anyone (14 years and older) who knows how to knit or crochet; knitting and crocheting instruction is not provided. No registration is necessary. According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We’ll cover the many health benefits of a plant based diet, basic nutrition, what products are available in the supermarket, why you might want to choose organic and non-GMO foods and transitioning to a more compassionate lifestyle. Handouts will include menus and recipes and learn how you and your family can enjoy these wonderful nutritious foods. Join Susan Rose, Vegetarian Lifestyle Coach who will present a simple meditation technique that can be practiced at home by young and old.

BIO: Susan has been a vegetarian and meditating for over 40 years.  She has been cooking and studying nutrition with an emphasis on plant-based whole foods and recently completed a course in Plant Based Nutrition from E-Cornell and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. She enjoys cooking for family and friends and creating recipes that are quick and easy to make.  Since retiring from a senior executive position in Sales & Marketing from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, she has conducted numerous talks and workshops around the world on the vegetarian lifestyle and is co-editor of a cookbook called Veggies & You. She will share information on how a plant based diet is healthy, gentle to the planet, and how it can enhance our spiritual development.

Image result for Decoupage trash canToday we will be making a decoupaged trash basket using ModPodge and decorative paper.  If you have favorite (scrapbook) papers with patterns you like or some left over wall paper that matches your decor, bring it in for your use.  

In 2019, the Adult Crafternoon program will continue on the first Wednesday afternoon every month from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in Program Room 1A/1B. We will continue to do a variety of craft projects using recycled materials, whenever possible, that we are going to repurpose (or up-cycle) into Eco-Friendly objects and gifts. The specific projects will be posted in this calendar and a list of items we will be using will be available so that participants can contribute some of the materials.

Registration (below) is recommended.  The class is limited to 8 adults.  Unreserved and no-show seats will be filled on a first come first serve basis.  The doors will be closed at 1:40 p.m. and no one else will be admitted once the class begins.

Please plan to arrive 5 minutes early so that the class can begin on time.    Children will not be allowed in the classroom.

Come to the library for a fun afternoon of creativity and conversation!

According to a Harvard Health report, “This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life. Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might also be thought of as 'medication in motion.'"  Classes are taught by local Tai Chi instructor Jimmy Lee, who has studied Tai Chi Chuan since 1983 and has been teaching since 2004.  He is a formal disciple of Zhang Yun, who was personally trained by Wang Pei Sheng. 

A six-class session of Tai Chi will be offered in the library on Wednesday evenings on January 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 6 and 13, 2019.  The class will be geared towards beginners and returning students with some experience.  The classes are held in the Ellen Gambatese Room (the Octagonal Program room in the Children's Department) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The next five-week session of Mixed-Level Yoga and Meditation starts tonight.   This session of Yoga and Meditation will be held for five weeks on February 28, March 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2019 at 5:30 p.m.  The cost of this five-class session is $60.00 payable at the time of registration.  All registrations must be made before the start of the session on or before the first day of the class.  No partial or late payments will be accepted. 

The class includes a one-hour period of Yoga instruction, with variations in difficultly suitable for new to experienced practioners, and with a half-hour of meditation to follow.  There is another, separate Beginner/Intermediate Yoga class taught by another teacher following this class at 7:30 p.m.  The classes are not interchangeable; you must attend the same session for which you registered for the entire five weeks. 

Payment for this session ($60.00) can be made in person at the Information Desk at the time of registraion by check or money order made payable to The Friends of the South Brunswick Library.
