Image result for veteransThose who have served our country and continue to serve have some incredible stories to tell. Join us for the sharing of stories from Veterans and active military members who have been interviewed by students and Scouts as a way to learn and to honor their service. The young interviewers will introduce the Veteran or active military member in an audio-visual presentation. Where did you serve? What kind of food did you eat? What was your job in the military? What did you like to do in your down time? These and other questions will be answered in an effort to understand the life of our men and women in uniform and to appreciate the sacrifices that have been made. Rob Spohr, who was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and later served in the NY National Guard, will be sharing his experiences as the Program Assistant for Songwriting with Soldiers, whose mission is to transform lives by using collaborative songwriting by pairing professional musicians with Veterans to tell their stories through song.  Local author and Iraqi Veteran, Ryan Smithson, will speak about his time in the Army Corps of Engineers and about his passion for helping other Veterans tell their story. His book, Ghosts of War, will be available for purchase.

This program is open to the public. Light fare will be served. Registration requested.

Lincoln Center at the Movies presents

George Balanchine's The Nutcracker New York City Ballet

Experience the wonder of New York City Ballet's iconic holiday classic on the big screen. In George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky's beloved melodies transport the young and young at heart to a magical world where mischievious mice besiege a battalion of toy soldiers, and an onstage blizzard leads to an enchanted Land of Sweets. Balanchine's stunning choreography shines amidst awe-inspiring set pieces, ornate costumes, and grand one-of-a-kind visual effects, like the one-ton Christmas tree that grows to an astonishing 40 feet. The New York City Ballet's beloved production has been performed in New York City every year since its premiere on February 2, 1954, and is seen live by more than 100,000 people annually.
