Avid hiker and Appalachian Mountain Club trail leader Elise Hedglen returns to Harmony Library to give a presentation about winter hiking.  Active people who only think of hiking during the warm weather months will be surprised and pleased to learn about the unexpected bonuses of hiking during the winter season.  Elise will speak about those bonuses as well as the practical precautions that come with cold weather hiking.  She will bring some of her gear to the library with recommendations on what works best for her trips.  Elise will also share photos of some of her favorite winter hiking locations.  Bring your questions!

Elise retired after twenty-eight years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.  She is an avid biker, skier, hiker, and runner, having competed in thirteen marathons.  She leads hiking trips for the Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and has climbed all forty-eight peaks over 4,000 feet in New Hampshire, all five in Vermont, and all five in Maine.   In October of 2022, she finished hiking her last unfinished section of the Appalachian Trail.
