Travels With My Aunt Alzheimer's & Dementia ProgramTuesday January 15, 2019
12:00 PM until 2:00 PM
Susan I. Wranik, MS, Occupational Therpaist & Speech-Language Pathologist
Dementia is a journey, not a destination, similar to traveling to a foriegn country: different languages, different time zone and different cultural norms. Travels with My Aunt draws on vignetts, real life, stories to illustrate proficiency, physical coodination, and recognition/recall of familiar solutions to provide those caring for, living with and loving someone with Dementia with the tools for productive communication and positive internaction. An upbeat and innovative approach to an unselected travel destination, this program will help people recognize the signs and stages of dementia and respond appropriately. This program traces the journey of dementia over a 20-year period through a narrative of vignettes illustrating the changes in memory, reasoning, and language coupled with recommendations for improving communication at each step. Program is free and open to the public but requires preregistration. Lunch will be served. Please RSVP by Monday January 14th to Jane Marie Baker at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 781.538.4534.
