Mixed Media: Exploring Materials and Projects I and II
Students can choose to take Mixed Media I and II or chose to take only one of the workshops.
These 2 workshops are appropriate for students with no prior experience or students who have experience but would like to start again. The workshops can be a jumping point to a studio practice that is fulfilling and enjoyable.
In Mixed Media: Exploring Materials and Projects I students will be introduced to a variety of exciting and fun to use materials such as inks, both acrylic inks and pigment inks, gel pens, micron pens and markers. Students will try different papers and will learn what paper will be best suited for their project. Students will try collage with variety of handmade papers, found papers and will learn how to use a variety of geometric and organic shapes to create images. In addition, students will be able use drawing tools, experiment with mark making, variety of lines and patterns. Students can expect to leave the class with a number of pieces that can be taken home for additional development.
In Mixed Media: Exploring Materials and Projects II students will be introduced to fluid acrylic paints, a variety of acrylic mediums and markers. We will focus on creating images loosely inspired by landscapes. We will work on colors and compositions to create works that are abstract but still retain the feel of the natural world. Adding layers and removing layers will be part of the process. Students will be able to complete a piece on a small wood panel or a few smaller pieces using heavy weight paper.
