The Christmas Canvas: Paintings of the Nativity Story

Tuesday December 10, 2019
7:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Around the holidays, the images that surround us promote holiday hours and doorbusters. This program is designed to emphasize images that are central to the meaning of the season. Imagery that deals with the nativity will be shown, discussed and compared with one another to reveal the multiple layers of meanings that can be conveyed even within the same subject matter. Various artists from different cultures and time periods will be included to provide a broad look at an important tradition in Art History. Some artists whose work will be discussed include Botticelli, Van Eyck, Tanner, Martini, Fabriano, Campin, and van der Goes.

Art Historian Jeff Mishur presents this slide lecture. Mishur is an owner of Art Excursions, a company that provides private guiding in Chicago; lectures; and boutique art and culture tours in the United States.
