Lunch and Munch Book Group Reschedule for 6/29Wednesday June 22, 2022
12:00 PM until 1:00 PM
This is event has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 29th and will be held in Room A
The Lunch and Munch Book Club is in partnership with the Mt. Lebanon Lion's Club and meets when possible at a local restraunt to discuss books while sharing lunch together. When it is not possible to meet in person we will meet virtually via Zoom and we invite you to feel free to munch along with us while discussing non-fiction works of history and historical fiction. This month's selelection is John M. Barry's The Great Influenza. We will be meeting at Mt. Lebanon Public Library in the courtyard. Refreshments will be provided.
Magisterial in its breadth of perspective and depth of research, The Great Influenza provides us with a precise and sobering model as we confront the epidemics looming on our own horizon. As Barry concludes, "The final lesson of 1918, a simple one yet one most difficult to execute, is that...those in authority must retain the public's trust. The way to do that is to distort nothing, to put the best face on nothing, to try to manipulate no one. Lincoln said that first, and best. A leader must make whatever horror exists concrete. Only then will people be able to break it apart."
The library will have copies of the book at the Circulation desk. Digital copies of the book will be available in Overdrive and the library's AXIS 360 account. Registration is required. Location TBD. If the event is virtual you will receive a Zoom link to the event and book discussion questions one hour prior to the start of the event.
