Summer Reading Challenge for Kids! Monday June 15, 2020
We’re encouraging all children ages birth - entering grade 5 to sign up for our Summer Reading Challenge, which runs from June 15 - August 8.
It's simple! Register your child.* Encourage them to read at least 15 minutes a day. Log the amount of time spent reading regularly.
The library will then engage kids with incentives designed to keep them reading all summer long!
Incentives include earning virtual badges, completing interesting activities, receiving raffle tickets for over 25 prizes and, after reading for 7 hours, earning a yard flamingo to decorate for all of Seekonk to see!
Top Reasons to Regsiter your child for the Summer Reading Challenge
*Children who don't read in the summer fall behind an average of 2 months on their reading skills
*Reading 15 – 20 minutes per day during the summer can prevent a decline in a child’s fall reading scores
*This program encourages children to want to read by engaging them with incentives and activities
*Summer reading programs are endorsed by principals, teachers and educators to help children maintain reading and learning skills over the summer months
Note to parents- You sign your children up and we'll engage them with incentives designed to keep kids reading all summer long!
Did we mention the community goal is to read for 200,000 minutes? If the kids reach that milestone then the Seekonk librarians will celebrate this wonderful achievemmnet in a very silly way. Details when you register!
