Conversation Café: Civility in Dialogue and Protest

Saturday November 17, 2018
1:00 PM until 3:00 PM

The library is proud to sponsor another session in an ongoing series of community discussions.  This time of year is well-known for fraught conversations around the holiday dinner table, conversations that are sure to be more animated in this era of increasingly bitter political divides.  What is the role of civility in these conversations, both at home and in the wider world?  Is it ever okay to ditch civility in pursuit of a deeply-held conviction?  And what’s behind some of the most contentious disagreements in today’s society?  All points of view are welcome for a respectful and civil dialogue, maintained using tried-and-true methods of discourse (see www.conversationcafe.org for details).  Dig into the issues while enjoying a drink of your choice—the first one’s on the library!  It’s time to get to know each other again.
