Virtual: Suriname and Guyana: Land of the Giants (grades 6-Adult)

Tuesday April 6, 2021
6:30 PM until 7:30 PM

Flyer for Suriname and GuyanaJoin Wayne Sentman the Director of Conservation Travel Programs for the Oceanic Society for Storrs Library's Around the World Nature Series for Suriname and Guyana: Land of the Giants. Formerly Dutch Guyana, Suriname has been independent since 1975 and is one of the least densely populated countries in the world. Similarly, Guyana also has a very low population density, and both feature stunning, remote natural areas. Explore some of Suriname's and Guyana's unique biodiversity, including Kaieteur Falls in Guyana, home to the beautiful Cock-of-the-Rock and the longest single-drop waterfall in the world, the coastal beaches which support the worlds' second largest leatherback sea turtle nesting area, and the Central Suriname Reserve, one of the ten largest tropical forest reserves in the Amazon. With their high biodiversity and large portions of their land areas set aside as protected parks, Guyana and Suriname offer unparalleled, and off the beaten track opportunities for exploration in South America.

This program is part of the Nature Series with Storrs Library presented by Joy Marzolf and Wayne Sentman. This series will take place the first Tuesday of the month from September through May.
