History Hub - The Colline Gate in Rome

Wednesday October 20, 2021
7:00 PM until 7:45 PM

Calling on all history buffs! We will look at the Porta Collina (Colline Gate), which is a gate at the Servian Walls in Rome and built by the Etruscan King Servius Tellius, going back many centuries before Rome. It is a historically significant landmark with interesting history that helped to shape Roman civilization. It was the theater of several key battles entailing wars against Gauls, Sabine, and Etruscans. Two of the best known events were in 217 BC, in the midst of the Second Punic War with Hannibal and during the civil war in 82 B.C. between the ruthless Roman general Lucius Cornelius Sulla and the Marians.
