The Energy of Falling Water: Connecticut's Early Mills

Learn about the history of Connecticut watermills in this informative virtual program presented by John Cilio.  Many of Connecticut's mills, like grist mills, button mills, and saw mills, were powered by CT's streams and rivers. The presentation shares the history of mill technology from Roman days right up to information about the 1,400 plus mills that developed in Connecticut and how they enhanced the economy.  The presentation highlights a dozen or so mills in the region and state.

John Cilio is a historian and storyteller. John lives in Sherman, CT and is the author of six historical books and over 200 articles covering a broad range of topics and has spoken on a wide range of topics in over 60 countries. His goal is to make history relevant, engaging, and enlightening.
