Spring Cleaning Hacks: How to Get Started When You Don’t Want To

Saturday March 25, 2023

There’s a lot of advice out there about spring cleaning and decluttering. We may want to spark joy with our surroundings, conquer the paper piles on our desks, or organize our sock drawer. The truth is most of us would rather be doing something else. In this presentation, psychologist Kelly Kandra Hughes will share insights from personality and behavioral neuroscience research that explains how our brains are the biggest obstacle to our decluttering success, as well as share practical advice that can jumpstart our motivation and help us tackle the items on our spring cleaning to-do list.

Kelly Kandra Hughes earned her PhD in psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After quitting her job as a tenured associate professor, Kelly gave away, donated, recycled, and trashed 95% of her belongings. Although she has zero expectations that anyone else should subscribe to her level of minimalism, she is always happy to assist others on their personal growth journeys, particularly with decluttering, goal setting, and behavior change.
