From Art to Art Book Launch at the Library

Wednesday January 31, 2024
6:00 PM

Join Woodbury’s Poet Laureate Sandy Carlson, and many of the contributing artists and poets to celebrate the publication of From Art to Art! at the WPL.

The beautiful, full-color book includes poetry written by Woodbury’s Orenaug Poetry Group that was inspired by the art in Woodbury Public Library’s Gallery from October 2022 to September 2023. The book includes images and poems that represent a diverse array of artistic styles and poetic voices. The Woodbury Public Library underwrote the production of the book, which was created by Woodbury’s Poet Laureate Sandy Carlson.

Poetry about art is called ekphrastic poetry, and it is the result of a poet’s writing in response to a work of art, drawing on the details of the art as well as individual experience to create a new, original work of art.

Artists graciously gave their time and granted access to their art for this book.  They are Peter Seltzer, Michael Coleman, Marc Chabot, J. Neil Bittner, Steve Habersang, Lisa Barash-Rosario, Marla Thornington Martin, Sarah Jane Thornington, Skip Marsh, and Nonnewaug High School Class of 2023 senior art students Timnah Kaufman, Madison Dannenhoffer, Samantha Molzon, Eliana Groben, Genevieve Richmond, Evelyn Stone, Gretchen Davis, Kailey Moore, Helena de Castro, and Sarah Walsh.

Poets who wrote about their work are Steve Allison, Betty Lou Bowles, Sandy Carlson, Julie Cook, Amy D’orio, Ed Dzitko, Margaret Hunt, Elizabeth Kutepov, Lin Northrup, Sharon Smith, and Kelly F.J. Wright.  The book launch is open to all, and copies of the book will be available to purchase as well as added to the Library’s collection.
