Gardening with Native Plants (Virtual Program)

Many people are now familiar with the declining population of the Monarch butterfly, but are you also aware that our bird populations have declined by more than 3 billion since 1970?  One of the key actions each of us can take to counteract this loss is to create a habitat for birds and beneficial insects in our own yards by including plants native to Pennsylvania.  But what are these, you might ask, and how do I include them in my yard? Join Trish Beckjord, landscape architect, for a presentation on Pennsylvania native plants that do well in gardens and how to incorporate them into our landscaping.  This presentation is brought to you by the Mount Lebanon Nature Conservancy in observance of Earth Day.

Trish Beckjord is a landscape architect who has specialized throughout her career in including native plants in designed gardens and landscapes. In Chicago, her most recent home, Trish served as the Fox River Initiative Program Manager for The Conservation Foundation, the Native Plants Specialist for Midwest Groundcovers, LLC and Senior Associate for Conservation Design Forum.  Trish recently moved back to Pittsburgh, where she continues to help others enjoy and appreciate the benefits of native plants.

The Librarian coordinating the event will email each registrant a Zoom meeting invitation approximately an hour before the start of the program.  Zoom is available as a free desktop (for Windows, MacOS, and Linux Operating systems) and mobile application for Android and Apple iOS devices. Once Zoom is installed, you will be able to join the virtual Library program.

Registration is required.  By registering for this event you have agreed to comply with the library's patron behavior policy.
