StoryWalk - Snowmen All Year : [ OAKMONT ]

Enjoy reading & the outdoors at the same time! Laminated pages from a children’s book are installed along out outdoor path in our garden area on the Allegheny River Blvd. side of the library. As you walk on the path, you are directed to the next page in the story. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition & Kellogg Hubbard Library.

DECEMBER: "Snowmen all Year" by Caralyn Buehner

In this lighthearted, funny follow-up to the previous Snowmen bestsellers, our young narrator dreams of a non-melting snowman friend who joins him for all of the year's events. They ride a roller coaster together, dive into a swimming pool in the summer, watch the Fourth of July fireworks, and trick-or-treat on Halloween. It's hilarious, happy wish fulfillment that kids will adore. As Kirkus said of the first book, "It would be difficult not to fall in love with this rollicking flight of imagination."

Join us at the library to explore our block and toys collection in the company of other families. Use your hands to stack pieces together, knock them down, and start all over again. Block Party is a Pennsylvania State Library initiative aimed to encourage the use of block play for developmental and learning growth in young children.

We will set up our program room with building toys and manipulatives encouraging children to self-guide their participation. This is a drop-in program for all ages so you're welcome to stay for as little or as much as you can, but we ask that you register so we know you're coming.

PERCY JACKSON BOOK CLUB FOR TEENS : [ SPARK ]

In a way, it’s nice to know that there are Greek gods out there, because you have somebody to blame when things go wrong. For instance, when you’re walking away from a bus that’s just been attacked by monster hags and blown up by lightning, and it’s raining on top of everything else, most people might think that’s just really bad luck; when you’re a half-blood, you understand that some divine force is really trying to mess up your day. – Rick Riordan

Calling all Percy Jackson fans! Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to join our Percy Jackson Book Club. Join us on the first Wednesday of every month where we will discuss the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series while enjoying snacks as well as crafts and activities based on the book series!

We will be reading the third book in the series, The Titan’s Curse, for our meeting. Participants should read or listen to the book prior to the book club meeting. If you do not finish the entire book, you can still come to the event. Participants are also encouraged to bring at least two questions or ideas that they would like to discuss with the group.

Join us as we make DIY Nectar and Ambrosia Ornaments inspired by the book! All materials will be provided.

If you are interested in joining, please register.

Read Between the Wines : [ ROBINSON ]

Come and join us for a holiday story - The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews.

When newly-divorced Ivy Perkins buys an old farmhouse sight unseen, she is definitely looking for a change in her life. The Four Roses, as the farmhouse is called, is a labor of love―but Ivy didn't bargain on just how much labor. The previous family left so much furniture and so much junk, that it's a full-time job sorting through all of it.
At the top of a closet, Ivy finds an old Santa suit―beautifully made and decades old. In the pocket of a suit she finds a note written in a childish it's from a little girl who has one Christmas wish, and that is for her father to return home from the war. This discovery sets Ivy off on a mission. Who wrote the note? Did the man ever come home? What mysteries did the Rose family hold?
Ivy's quest brings her into the community, at a time when all she wanted to do was be left alone and nurse her wounds. But the magic of Christmas makes miracles happen, and Ivy just might find more than she ever thought a welcoming town, a family reunited, a mystery solved, and a second chance at love.
