Teens are invited to participate in this year's Summer Reading Program from Tuesday, June 14th - Thursday, August 11th! For every book you read, program you attend, or volunteer hour you perform, you will get a raffle ticket for some great prizes. There will be a weekly drawing of a $10 Target gift card, a chance to win one of five $100 gift card from Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) that will be awarded at the end of summer, as well as South Park Library's end-of-summer grand prize of a set of AirPods!

Also, be sure to take part in the Bonus Teen Summer Reading Challenge. The teen that reads the most hours will win a $25 Target gift card! Download and print out the Summer Reading Challenge Form to keep track of the hours read. At the end of Summer Reading, turn this form in at the Library's Front Desk.

Children are invited to participate in this year's Summer Reading Program beginning Thursday, June 16th. By signing up to Beanstack, children and their families can earn badges by attending programs and tracking the books that they read for a chance to win some weekly prizes! The child that was most active in reading and attending programs this summer will have a chance to win this year's grand prize! 

Although our Children's Summer Reading program officially concludes on Sunday, August 7th, families can still log their child's reading and any of the programs that they attended until Sunday, August 14th. Additionally, Ms. Tami will draw the lucky Summer Reading Grand Prize winners for the child that was most active in reading and attending summer reading programs.

South Park Township Library is selling mums, pansies, and kale plants! Visit the Library to pick up a pre-order form or find the pre-order form online here. We are accepting pre-order forms and payments through Friday, September 23rd.



Pre-orders will be available for pick-up on Saturday, October 8th from 10AM-5PM at the Library. Additional mums will also be available for purchase at the Library. September is also 'Love Your Library Month' which means that all funds raised are generously doubled on a prorated basis by The Buncher Foundation.

Join us at Plum Borough Community Library for a two day program designed to give entering kindergarteners the opportunity to experience a classroom setting and practice being a student before starting school.  We will review kindergarten concepts (alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes) while practicing social-emotional skills like sharing, lining up, transitioning, and group work.  Each day we will have circle time, reading (read a book together), math activity, learning stations based on the theme of the day, music, and art.

Fiber Artist Judé Ernest will be on hand for advice on all types of crafts in the Learning Lab for adults wishing to work on their own projects. Materials and tools will be available (including sewing machine, iron, wool roving, embroidery threads, fabric, yarn, jewelry making tools, card making and other craft supplies and tools).  Previous experience with techniques and use of supplies is suggested. ADULTS ONLY allowed in Learning Lab during this open time. This is an opportunity to utilize maker resources, consult with the resident artist and work on self-directed projects. 3-D printer is not available. Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month.

Story Time Chess Level 1 : [ SFAYETTE ]

Ages 3.5 - 7 yrs

Story Time Chess includes 15-20 minutes of Silly Stories and 15-30 minutes of mini-games.

Level 1 - Piece and Game Mechanics. How the pieces move, what they like to do and their relationship with each other.

Level 2 - Must have completed Level 1 - Strategy and Planning. How to play a full game and what sequences to use in the beginning, sportsmanship, how to be friends when we play, how to win and lose, and how to make a plan.

Level 3 - Must have completed Level 2 - Piece Valuation and Sportsmanship. Teaches students how to record their chess games using algebraic notation.

Level 4 - Must have completed Level 3 - Piece Mobility and Notation. This emphasizes piece mobility and continues the recording of chess games with algebraic notation.

Level 5 - Must have completed the previous Level 3 - Attacking and Defending. Sessions about offensive and defensive strategies accompany an exciting story series about grit, perseverance, and visualizing moves on the board.

Come sail the Ocean Blue with us! Who knows where you will land! Young Adventurers will hear a short story or chapter from the country we landed upon.  Activities, games and crafts will be incorporated as well! Stowaways (younger siblings) are welcome to attend as long as the Captain (parent/caregiver) is there to help with crafts, etc. Please note: this will be same program each day.

Caldecott Kids Mo Willems - 3 day camp for entering K-2nd grade : [ SFAYETTE ]

This program is for children entering Kindergarten - Second Grade in Fall 2022

This program is a 3-day camp on Tuesday, August 9,  Wednesday, August 10, and Friday, August 12 at 1PM-2PM in the South Fayette Township Meeting Room.

This camp session will feature author and illustrator Mo Willems. Mr. Willems makes some of his illustrations by using drawing or real objects on photographs. Some of his books include Knuffle Bunny, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and Leonardo and the Terrribe Monster Day 1, we will read books by this author/illustrator, discuss the art and practice his techniques making our own art. Day 2, children will think of their own simple story and art that goes with it.  Day 3, children will put the words and art together to take home their own little storybook in the style of Mo Willems!

Description: This FREE brand new five-week camp gives students entering 8th grade through 10th grade an opportunity to learn from a professional artist and try the tools the pros use! Use a variety of drawing, painting and collage materials to create vibrant artworks inspired by the interesting creatures and habitats found under the sea. August 9th and 16th. Registration required. Register for below for both classes. All supplies provided. $5 suggested donation. FOR ADULTS. 

Jena Schieb has provided art and STEAM education for students at every age and level in schools and community and cultural organizations for over 15 years. She is owner of the virtual arts education business Art @ Home with Miss Jena, is the Education Manager at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh and Senior Educator at Carnegie Museum of Art. She was previously Director of Studio Art at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and Studio Manager for Studio Make PGH. She is working artist, business owner and teaching artist with a Master's Degree in Education.
