Join illustrator-author David Opie for a talk about his book, All the Birds in the World. Mr. Opie will discuss the likenesses and differences between birds, and between birds and humans. He will show how he manages to depict the various birds and will encourage participants to try to draw them when they get home.

David Opie has illustrated many books including Dozer’s Run and There was an Old Gator Who Swallowed a Moth. However, All the Birds in the World is the first book where he is both author and illustrator. All the Fish in the World, Mr. Opie's second book where he does both the words and illustrations, will be published this fall.

Copies of All the Birds in the World will be available for sale at the end of the talk. Mr. Opie will sign copies and include his Kiwi logo. The cost of the book is $18.05, including tax, and checks should be made out to the Silver Unicorn Bookstore.

Zoom Art Program on Adobe Fresco with Hongbing Tang

  • Important: materials requirement: You must have an Ipad or an Iphone to participate in this live remote program.  Ipad ideal! iphone works.
  • A regular stylus pen or Apple pencil is recommended. A finger works.
  • Please download the free Adobe Fresco app from the App Store before the start of the program. 
  • Participants must be between 9-16 years old
  • Registration required. Please register below.

A description of the program from Hongbing Tang, the instructor:

Ever seen panda, bamboo, waterlily, mountain or an old temple drawn digitally and wonder how to do that? This is a fun art workshop for students who want to explore the fundamentals of digital drawing and painting. Ms. Hongbing Tang, an award-winning artist and college faculty member, will guide students through step-by-step instructions on how to draw and paint an Asian theme art project digitally. Students will learn to use Adobe Fresco - a popular free app to create digital art on iPad or iPhone.

 

Please download the free Adobe Fresco app from the App Store. A regular stylus pen or Apple pencil is recommended to use. A reference image will be provided to registered students by email. The class will be online and a zoom meeting link will be sent to students before class.

The sale features thousands of used hardcovers and paperbacks for children and adults; there are also a limited number of audiovisual items. The Friends of the Acton Libraries support Memorial Library, West Acton Citizens Library, and Acton Boxborough School District libraries.
