Book Talk: Death in the Details

Connecticut author, Katie Tietjen, will discuss her new book, Death in the Details.

It’s 1946, and Maple Bishop, a recent war widow, is suddenly penniless. To make ends meet, she begins building and selling intricately crafted dollhouses. However, when she makes a delivery to her first customer, she finds his dead body hanging from a noose.

Maple sees details at the scene that could point to foul play; after the sheriff brushes her off, she puts her dollhouse-making skills to new use by crafting a miniature re-creation of the scene to persuade him to dig deeper. When he continues to rebuff her, she teams up with an idealistic young deputy. Together, they discover the truth about Elijah Wallace’s death and turn up some disturbing secrets lurking beneath the idyllic surface of their small Vermont town.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Free and open to all.

Registration is suggested as seating is limited and is available one month prior to the event.

A Joy Circle

Come join us to cultivate joy and connection! Chloe Carlson will talk briefly about what joy is, why joy is so beneficial to our well-being, and how to harness and even amplify joy’s benefits, all drawing from the work of Stanford neuroscience researcher, Kelly McGonigal, PhD.

Chloe will also review some of the simple, effective tools Dr. McGonigal has identified, which we can use to foster joy in our everyday lives. Since joy, like other emotions, is contagious, and connection is a major source of joy, we will be heightening our circle’s collective joy by exploring and sharing about joy together. Joy to you!

Free and open to all.

Registration is suggested as seating is limited and is available one month prior to the event.

Helen Keller - Champion of the Disabled

The program is written from Helen’s mind eye. The story is told on a taped voice over as Helen reenacts her full life from her childhood through her discovery of language when she was seven years old to the writing of her twelve books. She will show the audience how she speaks and reads in Braille, and her story continues through her graduation from college. This is one of our most unique, very special programs which helps us to understand and accept the different ways people do the same things and inspires them to be the best they can be with the talents they possess.  This one woman show is presented by Shery Faye.

Free and open to all.

Registration is suggested as seating is limited and is available one month prior to the event.

Sponsored by the Friends of Acton Public Library.
