Wanderhome
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Registration Required

Ages 7 and up (Players must also be able to read and write independently)

Wanderhome is a collaborative storytelling game, similar to Dungeons and Dragons, but with fewer rules and a focus on problem solving instead of combat.  Our adventure will take place in Haeth, a peaceful land full of animal-folk. We'll all work together to describe the places we go, and the friends we meet along the way. Do you want to travel as a skunk who carries mail? A fox who's a travelling teacher? Maybe a crow who loves to tell jokes? Something else? Come join our story!

Please register before September 16 for the school year session, which will meet weekly on Mondays from September-June. Interested players and parents should also register for the Wanderhome Info Session on September 11.

Baby Penguin Needle Felting with The Felted Bee
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This program will require registration as space is limited. Registration is not open yet, check back in November.

Learn everything you need to know to begin needle felting with artist Jennifer McCarthy, owner of The Felted Bee. Grab a friend and learn the art of needle felting in a supportive and relaxing environment. In this beginner friendly workshop, you will learn skills and techniques specific to needle felting as well as how to make your own
needle felted baby penguin.

Needle felting is a technique of using a very sharp, barbed needle to repeatedly stab into the wool to create felt. The wool becomes tangled and snarled and compressed by the needle to create various three dimensional forms. The needles that are used are special, very sharp, barbed needles. The wool gets hooked on these barbs and
compresses into itself.

No experience is necessary, ages 14+. All materials are included, and you get to take your felting needle and foam pad home too.

About the artist: Jennifer McCarthy owns and operates The Felted Bee, a needle felting company nestled within the South Shore region of Massachusetts. Jennifer has spent years honing her various needle felting creations and techniques. She brings her background in painting & sculpture and over 16 years of art education to classes of all ages. Check out her work at thefeltedbee.com.

VIRTUAL: The Boston Tea Party -- 250 Years Later
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.**

Register directly on Zoom.

The story of tea has always been infused with intrigue, particularly when it became a flash point for tensions between England and Colonial America. On the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party (December 16, 1773), learn about the brewing political problems tea presented in its history with Anglophile and former UK resident Claire Evans. Then, author, genealogist, librarian, and former UK resident Debra Dudek examines the history of the Boston Tea Party’s most famous partiers (and phonies), as well as how to trace bona fide participants through lineage societies and historical groups.

NOTE: This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program.

This program is hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library and a collaboration between multiple MA libraries. This program is sponsored by Whitcomb House Trust.

Fierce Females: Women in Art

Women have long been the subject of art, often depicted as nothing more than objects of desire. How do images of women change when women become the creators? This program examines the history of women in art in brief and then explores the lives, careers and works of several major women artists from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, including Artemisia Gentileschi and Mary Cassatt.

About the presenter: Jane Oneail (pronounced OH-neel) is the founder of Culturally Curious, an arts education consulting firm specializing in art appreciation programs. She curates and delivers programs throughout New England and beyond. Oneail holds a master’s in Art History from Boston University and a master’s in Education from Harvard University. Born and raised in NH, she has worked at some of the state's most esteemed cultural institutions, including the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, where she served as Executive Director, and the Currier Museum of Art, where she held the role of Senior Educator. Jane has also taught at the college level for more than a decade, most recently at Southern New Hampshire University. For more information visit iamculturallycurious.com.

This program is hosted by Sargent Memorial Library in Boxborough and a collaboration between multiple MA libraries. This program is sponsored by Whitcomb House Trust.

Bending Towards Justice: African Americans as Subject and Creators in American Art

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” This program examines that arc as it relates to African American history enshrined in American Art. From colonial era portraits to 19th-century and Jim Crow-era prints to 1960s Civil Rights photography, this program will provide a visual overview of African American oppression, struggle and progress towards equality.
